Does anybody know where I can buy easy off ovencleaner in Germany?

Or in the Netherlands or Belgium?

Aren't there some similar products besides brake fluid?

Austrian Tiger Enfetter, but possibly any degreaser (also Castrol degreaser in USA), dont forget, try at your own rish [;)]

Ok, as I messed up the blackfoot paint job today I decided to try ovencleaner and maybe 'rescue' the body.

There were three different makes.

I took the K2R one that is recomendet by the big ovenmakers (bosch, siemens etc...). I think it is made in switzerland.

There were two other brands. One was "no-name" and the other one seemed to aggressive/ corrosive becaus it said s.th. like "don't let the foam be more than 1 hour on the oven". And it said "ätzend" and inflamable(I think it means corrosive in english), the other ones were only inflamable.

My question:

How many hours would you let the foam 'work' on a hard plastic (blackfoot) body id="red">[?]

The paint is fresh, I tried to get of as much paint while it was wet.

I have tried the German brand "Barfin" (funny name for you native english-speaking lot out there!) ovencleaner, and though it was supposed to be "ätzend", it had no effect even on Humbrol paints.

As I wasn't able to find any ovencleaner that really removes paint, I mixed "Drano" drainage-cleaner with water. It did the trick. Good ventilation is however a must, and this mixture is a lot more harmful to skin, eyes and lungs than ovencleaners, so please wear goggles and rubber gloves, and just take care. A lot!

Also, Drano heats up when mixed with water, so it may cause distortion on thinwalled parts.

I used the same mixture to remove the orange anodizing from some Jug hop-ups. I had bare aluminum within seconds!

I also had no luck till now with over cleaners available in Germany, guess the EU laws prohibit as strong substances as available in US.

It seems to work. [:)] Maybe because the paint is fresh.

It is just 5 hours ago that I foamed the blackfoot with oven-cleaner foam. I just went into the garage to check out the progress. I could strip some paint with my fingers. Not very easyly but it worked.

Hopefully tomorrow the paint will go off more easyly. [:P]

I tried some "Verdünner" (nitro?) on the body before but that started to damage it within no time. [:I]

However I would have liked to try the "green activator" we talked about in another thread. Maybe I'll find out a distributor in Germany someday.

The "good stuff" to use always carries warning messages of:

HIGHLY CAUSTIC

USE IN WELL VENTILATED AREAS ONLY

DO NOT CONTACT WITH ALUMINIUM PARTS OF OVEN

DO NOT CONTACT WITH PAINTED PARTS OF OVEN

All the ones with no-fumes, not caustic etc etc don't usually do anything to paint.

Well, the one I bought did say "do not use on plastic, aluminium and painted parts of oven". But the other one seems to be more aggressive because there is a warning not to aply it for more than one hour.

However I am happy with the result.

I stripped of the paint with a brush and a hard sponge.

It wasn't easy but the paint came of. After less than an hour the body had only a little paint on it (will show some pics later).

I did not use gloves and my hands seem ok (used handcream afterwards) and the oven cleaner did not smell (but I opened both garage doors just to be cautios).

It is not the easiest way to strip a body but it is much better than sanding because it doesn't harm the body structures (lines of the doors, hood, fueltank-door etc) [;)]

Maybe next time I'll try BF if I manage to get a good amount from a car mechanics.

PS: The body was soaked for about 14 hours in oven-cleaner-foam.

Considering you can't use solvent hydrocarbon paintstripper or heat, its still the easiest way... [;)]

When's the last time you flushed your family car's brakes??

Might be an idea to do it... do it properly and you'll use

about 1L per car easily.

A tragic tale... Had an NSX body painted silver that I wanted to repaint in red. I have used Easy-Off for all my paint removal and have had no problems until now. Decided to do the same as I always did with this body. Sprayed the front end of the body and let it soak for a few in the sink. When I came back, left front fender well had melted away and body where I sprayed became very brittle.[:(] Dont know what happened, but now I will be more cautious.

Hi,

I got curious about the Easy Off Oven Cleaner since I remember that we have an old container of it somewhere so I dug it out, and I took some pictures of it;-

...My Gran bought it from a local Electrical appliance shop here in St.Helens, 12 miles from Liverpool, in Merseyside, England, about 20 years ago!!
