Original Bruiser Restoration

Hi everybody,

I got myself a original Bruiser, which I want to restore. My first mistake was to polish the frame rail , it's all shiny now - but i guess I also removed the protective coat....

Any tips on the chassis to avoid more damage? Another option is to paint the chassis with Zero Paints Metal Primer and Zero Paints Metal Color Steel.

Is it stainless steel? If not I would paint it!

You could have them chrome plated , not cheap but looks great .

Don't think there was anything protective... other than oil?

Mine don't look galvanised or anything.

If you've properly cleaned it you could just clearcoat it with a good enamel.

Others have powdercoated... but IMHO it looks wierd in bright colours, worst in white and if you do it in black then it looks just like the rere... lose-lose.

Nah they're plain steel sheet of some sort, they definitely rust!

Rusts like overnight if you've forgotten to clean after a muddy run.

i have the re-re and i don't like the black color of the frame. i designed to disassemble the whole thing and give each component a detail clean and protective coating. do you have any suggestion? thanks in advance..^^

Have not tried sanding off rere's black finish, I don't know if it's painted or some kind of electroplating. 

Sand/soda blasting probably easiest if you're jobbing out. Then clearcoat perhaps.

Or if you're lazy see if there's Rustoleum rattlecans sold where you are, I think they sell some enamel paints designed to paint over raw steel without primer. Paint over rust too they can.

thanks for your information and feedback. I already ordered the color (learning by doing  ), but have to wait 2 weeks...

@KEV THE REV The Mounty chassis looks very nice

@WillyChang I guess the rere's black finish is panted on, mine is already scrachted at the front shackle

The last days I got bored and plished the rear axle:

If you are interested I will keep you up to date about my resto.

I'm also happy if you got some advice for me.

After cleaning up my Brusier Chassis I coated the parts with a couple of coats of Duplicolor Clear Enamel.   Worked great and still looks good today.

my Bruiser chassis is finished now:

The transmission has been put togehter, but the motor is dead....

Some parts are missing, but should be available.
