Top Force alloy wheel hexes

Recommended Posts

Can anybody recommend a set of alloy wheel hexes for a Top Force?

I bought a set of clamping ones (non Tamiya) but  even when tightened as much as they will go they just slip on and off of the Top Force axles and don't clamp on to anything.

Can’t recommend clamping ones but why not use the alloy pin type Tamiya ones (53056) or is there a specific reason you want clamping ones?

If they are sliding off I guess they are for bigger (than 5mm) axles.

53056 is definitely an option.

Just wanted to see if anybody has any better ones first :)

53056 are robust and work well, but they are very heavy and in my humble opinion, an outdated design now that good clamping hexes are available. 53056 will be perfectly OK for a basher, but if your TF is otherwise fitted with high-spec parts, I'd suggest getting some Tamiya clamping hexes.

Do you have a part number for suitable Tamiya ones?

Assume right. Came across them originally when looking at the M-07. Sat in my watch list since. Might be worth checking.

Be curious to know how they are should you try them.

Those are OK! Tamiya have many clampiing hexes that fit the TF. They differ in colour and thickness. Also, aluminum washers are available for adjusting the overall thickness.

5-6mm would be the most lögical choice for the TF. Depending of which country you live in/buy from, availability may differ, but the most commonly available ones are probably these:

53569 Clamp Type Aluminum Wheel Hub (6mm Thick)
53570 Clamp Type Aluminum Wheel Hub (4mm Thick)
53823 Clamp Type Aluminum Wheel Hub (5mm Thick)

To ensure that they clamp properly on the wheel axles, a good 1.5mm hex driver really is essential. Using the relatively soft L-shaped hex driver included with the hubs often isn't sufficient for tightening the hubs properly.

I've got the same issue, bought some cheap ones off eBay and struggled to get them to clamp.

Squeezed them with some long nose pliers as I did them up and they hold ok now. Was a bit fiddly though.
