Original Midnight Pumpkin??

Hi all

I am fairly sure my wife has an original midnight pumpkin, its fairly battered (we got it that way). Reason I think its an original is that the axles are a bit on the wobbly side so I thought last night I would replace them, however I have noticed that the axles in this one have longer threads and the diff pin is too big for the holes at the end of the axles ( the new ones). Does this sound like an original? The body has the emblem on the grill also.

If it has the V8 on the grill , FORD on the tailgate and an old MSC rather than an ESC then it most likely is an original . You might find the old bearings have worn giving the slack rather than the axles are worn . If it is an original it probs has plastic bearings , so get some rubber shielded ball races from RCbearings.com , you can get a set for a MP and ballrace the whole truck / gearbox  = smooth running

yes has the V8 grilll and ford tailgate, but has an ESC old style one so maybe its been swapped. Thats cool guess its not worth much see the originals on ebay go for about £100 which I suppose is a lot for a CW01.

OK my next question is will a modern diff fit OK?

The diffs in these are pretty reliable , just get a re-re set and install that

Mine's still happily running the same spec it had when I built it in 1989 : MSC, Techniplus 27MHz Rx/Tx, even the genuine Tamiya headlight bulbs (what's an LED ?).

Unless you find one NIB (or the V8 grille and FORD tailgate are mint), an original one is never gonna be worth much, so just kick it into life with re-re bits and get wheeliein' !

(I bought a few body spares back in the day, so my Lowride Pumpkin also has the proper V8 grille and FORD tailgate)
