cheap servo for dt02 ?

Recommended Posts

Pretty much any standard sized or low profile (I assume the low profile will fit too) servo will be fine for a DT02. I have Futaba S3003 and Sanwa S148 servos in my tamiya buggies and they run without problems, and that includes  Monster Beetle with big wheels to turn.

Look for servos with at least 3.2kg torque and .20sec speed, which are basically minimum specs anyway for standard servos.

Metal gears could be useful if jumping but I haven't broken any yet (except in a race buggy on a track with a lot of jumps) or waterproof if you plan to run anywhere where itnmay get wet.

Check out Hobbyking who have a complete range of servos ranging from very cheap to more expensive  but still pretty cheap when compared to Savox, Futaba etc.

As above, I personally like HPI SF-10 and Traxxas 2056 or 2075 as they are all waterproof with 25t splines.

If Waterproof isn’t a concern then Futaba S3003  and Etronix ET0015 are options.

As Jonathon mentioned, Futaba S3003 (about 3.2kg torque) is the gold standard.

I like Tactic SX35.  It's only $10, torque is 5kg, speed 0.18sec.  Traxxas 2055, 2056, are comparable.  2075 are even stronger but Traxxas servos are louder.  I tried only one Savox, but it was rather twitchy, even with a noise reduction thing attached.  I'm rather disappointed in Savox.

There are cheaper alternatives as discussed below (I might try some).

I run Savox in my race buggies and was freaked out when I first installed it. It was secondhand and noisy as badword and I thought I had been sold a dud. It was also mu first digital servo and it is apparently making little adjustments all the time, or something. Anyway, they work well and if the noise is annoying just install a fan on your motor and you won't hear the servo 😉

I use a power dhd 20 kg and it's cheap and reliable and has metal gears as a bonus

Those Power HD servo's are a great servo for the price.

Blue Bird servos are good and cheap.

Some bad reviews of their entry-level plastic geared versions but these are less than £10 and I think sometimes folk expect too much!

I have several metal geared servos in my runners and can't fault them. A couple of the "buggy specific" ones are mental quick, too!

Any links or specific model numbers?
