Over the years through various trades and buyouts of other's part's stashes, I've acquired a lot of ORV monster truck parts. Until today I didn't know what "a lot" was exactly until I started breaking down all the chassis' in my "salvage yard". Now I'm starring at enough parts to build 4 more ORV monster trucks (and still have some odd spares left). The question is, what to do with them all?

Selling them is fruitless. I've pretty much given up on selling Tamiya parts in the US. If it doesn't say Traxxas, nobody cares. So, currently I have 2 Monster Beetle shelfers, a Blackfoot shelfer in the middle of a resto and a Monster Beetle runner + all these parts to build 4 more (minus bodies). One I figure will be a Mudblaster resto/shelfer because I don't have one. The price of the body shell/parts won't be cheap but oh well. Another I might make into a period correct Blackfoot racer. So that leaves two more to deal with. Any ideas on themes or design directions to go with them? I'm looking at a Subaru Brat kit, but by the time I buy a body shell plus all the stamped ORV parts and wheels/tires, I might as well just buy the kit.

Boy, do I know where you're coming from. I've been there in the past with ORVs, RC10s, Kyosho Raiders, and Pegasus/Icarus/Bandidos. I managed to trade off all but one of each eventually (and then sold the last Raider), but I still have a bunch of RC10 parts that I want to keep and build up, but I don't have a direction for yet. (And I have enough stuff to build either a Team car or a 10T, but annoyingly not quite enough for both.)

The only thing that comes to mind for your situation is Bill O'Brien's "Behemoth," from RCCA magazine, back in August 1989: a 6x4 Blackfoot with two rear ends in tandem, and a custom-made chassis and stretched bed...

Bodge it all together to make a 'Tamiya Addict of the Year Trophy' and donate to TC, it being the prize awarded annually for the person who's shown themselves to be biggest addict over the last year (Possibly for having the largest number of unfinished project cars ).

You know, I forgot about that truck. Now, I remember it well thinking about it. It used Hot Trick components for suspension mounts on that custom chassis plate which the article gave measurements for. I remember all the details now from the Imex tires to the handmade brass tubing roll bar and grill. Bill later tore the Behemoth down fora camo'd Clod-tired Blackfoot with a gun on the bed. I got a chance to talk to Bill a few years ago. I should see if he's still around. He still has the Wroad Wreaker 6x6 Bullhead. RCCA was such a big part of my childhood, I've often considered duplicating some of their project cars like the 8-tire Project Monster Beetle to the racy Project Blackfoot or RC10 Torpedo. Hmmm, you might be onto something there...

Ain’t that the truth about Traxxas.  My last three purchases were a CC-01,  TT02B,  and a HK Desert Fox.  From three different people all I heard was “Why didn’t you get a TRX4/Slash/ERevo?”  I have two Stampedes and one of them is going up for sale this week.  The other one is only sticking around because my two year old is infatuated with it, otherwise that would be gone too.  I have been wanting to replace one of them with an ORV chassis.  You know,  for comparison sake.

Get an 80's Jeep Cherokee shell and go for a Goonies car. Why this chassis? "ORV...bullet holes..."

Do you happen to have a Sway Bar kit in your "salvage yard"???  I'm looking for this:

Condition doesn't matter - I'll take a thrashed and trashed set-up no problem.

And depending on what you have, I'm always in the market for ORV spare parts.  Especially 3rd party or custom stuff, ie CRP, Parma, Thorp, etc...  And yeah, I'm in the US...

I wish I had one of those rear sway bar mounts. No, the only thing aftermarket I ever got was a Thorp set-up, but I use that. Some of the rougher parts have "interesting" modifications (like pop rivets) to keep them going.

Hmm, similar here.  Many, many years ago I bought a trade on here for a Monster Beetle project.  I only really wanted it for the body, which was quite badly bashed.  This was before the SS re-re even, so Tamiya Beetle bodies were at a premium.  The ORV parts went into a box on the basis that I might one day get around to finding all the missing parts and putting it together.  I found them again this morning while I was going through some boxes.  Doesn't look like enough to build a complete car but possibly enough for a rear end?

Anyway, I've also been ruing not buying a Blackfoot III when they were new.  I saw one in a shop and passed up on it.  There's a couple of NIBs out there but they're a lot of money for what they are.  Why do I want one?  Well, I've long had the intention of making another WR-01 out of parts, I haven't had a WR-01 in many years but I was sure I had enough parts to build one.  Unfortunately I can't find the second gearbox (if I ever had one, maybe I dreamt it?) so I don't quite have all the parts I need.  Plus I also need a complete Blackfoot body to finish an F150 street truck project that I started years ago - unfortunately I went down the wrong route and the body I cut up for it needs replacing.  If I had a BFIII, I could split it up for both projects.  Sadly the price for a new BFIII seems very steep and would (again) leave me with a huge pile of spares.

Which brings me back to the ORV.  The re-released Blackfoot is cheaper than the BFIII and has the body I want.  I was thinking I'd just trade out the rest of the parts since I don't like the original ORV much and I already have a King Blackfoot as a runner, which IMO is a far better truck.

Then I saw that 6x4 truck in the pic above...  And, well, the wheels started turning...  I've got an ORV gearbox, I've got most of a Monster Beetle back end, and with a new Blackfoot box I'd be able to put together everything else I'd need to build a 6x4 like that.

Only problem is I already have a (far superior) G6-01 chassis waiting for me to get around to doing something with it, and far more other projects besides that I'll never have time to finish...
