The journey I'm about to embark on:  Detail painting.   Can NOT DEAL WITH IT.  I'm not good at it, so it's esp annoying.

I'd rather watch paint dry, eat bugs, handle a snake, stare from a tall building down to the ground, etc.

Need a paint place for body works in my circumstance. Still unsolved matter. If solved, I would be very happy.
The next is good place for run. I can't move to a place out of the city only for rc.

Hooking up a steering servo, centering it, dragging out a battery and radio....hate it. It's easy but too time consuming.

+1 on that, that's why I bought a servo tester. Just plug it in, turn it on and set it to centre. Takes literally 20 seconds to do.

Absolutely everything is going on line:unsure:!.......local hobby shops are disappearing so it's harder to actually see in reality what I'm hopefully going to buy! :( and I just love the monthly RC car magazine getting posted through my letter box (it's just down to one mag now) there is someting good getting lost in a magazine with a cup of tea or coffee! sadly even said magazine keeps on plugging the online edition to me????

Having to control myself from buying every car I like the look of... which is a lot of cars = constant restraint... arrgghhhh! ( and then there’s the shiny hop ups too).

Absolutely this - I recently discovered my Local Hobby Shop so try to go in there as frequently as possible. I'm hardly going to keep their business afloat with my modest RC budget but if I can buy sundry items from them then I will at every chance. I just got back today - needed masking tape and tyre glue.

What I hate most about the hobby is the people who take it too seriously. I appreciate at competition level this is important, but at club level I think it's sometimes not relaxed enough. If like-minded folks just want to get together for a laugh, why should politics get in the way of that? I wonder sometimes whether that has deterred more people from the hobby in the past.

Yes my mind is already onto the Frog and Wild Willy purchases I see in my future. 🤣

Yes it has, about 10 years ago I rekindled my love of RC and went a bit mad on ebay, got a couple of cars running and went to the local club of where I was living at the time, the experience wasn't bad but I did feel in the way, I also went to the LHS and in sharing my interest in Tamiya stuff and mentioning the idea of joining the local club, I was basically told I was wasting my time (and that I should just get the current Team Associated car) - the advise was clearly correct but the way it was received simply put me off

I've recently got back into RC (without any intention of joining a club) and the sad reality of not running any of my cars resulted in me contacting a local club near to where I'm now living and the experience has been great - relaxed and very encouraging, I've now been a few times and learned the hard way that my DT-02/3 cars are going to struggle (not to mention the fact that my driving skills are very lacking) but had fun in the process :) - I've now bought a used Schumacher KF2 to use as my main car and am looking forward to good times ahead

I'm also upgrading a DT-02 - gotta keep the Tamiya love going :)

I know supporting a local shop is def important and I'm trying with all my will to avoid Amazon as much as possible, if I do go online, it's Ebay, Tower Hobbies, factory direct, etc.

Just for craps and giggles, I compared the Hi Tech charger price at the shop in Raleigh with Amazon, exact same price.  So why buy online?  No reason to.

Pricing is pretty competitive in person or online in this hobby it seems.  Which is great b/c it means I have more reason to shop in person.

For more rural shoppers they have almost no choice but to shop online.  For me, how much of a pain is the drive does factor in a bit.

My complaint about my local shop is, it's all Traxxas and Horizon.   For the hardcore Tamiya fan you're SOL at most shops.

RC Outlet in Jacksonville FL is where I bought my BRAT a few weeks ago.  I will absolutely call them up when I am ready to buy the Willy and the Frog and say "I'll buy from you if you are willing to ship" to support a offline retailer.  They were super nice there so they earned my business.  Amazon doesn't need my money.

Which shop is that???  Are you talking about Raleigh Hobby at the 401/70 Split, behind Lowes???  That's the only one I know about that hasn't closed down...

Are there others???

Yeah, I love the fact that you can buy a John Deere tractor and a new Traxxas in the same place...

Shipping cost! And the fact that you see what you get after you paid. It´s cool to order online with a broad spectrum of parts and low prices from china but I hardly miss a really well sorted hobby shop in town with a crew knowing about what they sell.

**** I miss that!
