I want to beef up my Pumpkin and pop a more powerful motor in (than the standard 540 silver can). Any hints? Don't want to screw it up or pop the standard speed controller.

What's the kind of maximum I should look at putting in? 23 turn?

I put in a 19 turn (I think) along with an ESC, that's good for some decent speed and won't blow the gearbox to pieces or anything. Shoving a 4xAA battery pack over the front can keep the wheels down a bit. With an MSC you might find it hairy, but I have little reference to go by on those.

You should definitely replace the plastic bushings with bearing races if you didn't already too (front wheels, gearbox). These are the general tips I was given when I started building and tinkering with mine, and it's helped a lot.

Enjoy :)

i put a 17 turn motor in my pumpkin once.

it went like stink! super wheelies, wheel spins, skids - but then the msc caught fire [:I][8D]

the only problem i can see with running a fast motor (apart from smoking the msc[;)]) is making the truck uncontrolable, and a lot more rollable [:P]

the gearboxes are very strong so i dont think stripping gears is a problem, just high speed crashes which would smash the shell and damage the chassis from fast impacts.

As the pumpkin sits quite high,if your going to get into some serious speed, lower the center of gravity to keep in more stable. This can be done by lowering/limiting the shocks travel. If you are using the kit supplied friction dampers, use a small piece of tubing on the damper shaft where it goes through the chassis.Lower the truck maybe 1/2 inch or so.If you are using oil dampers you can use a small piece of tubing inside the damper to limit extension. Suprisingly these trucks with a "little tinkering" can be made to handle quite well.
