Hello,

i have an old Stadium Rider without a Bodyshell.

Now i was thinking about what i should do with that Car. I have Oilshock in the right lengh, i have a bunch of Tamiya ESC´s so i will upgrade the Shocks an the MSC for an ESC.

I will buy some Bearings, because i am shure that the Car d not have Ball Bearings.

What Bodyshell should i Buy? What Bodyshells could fit? Does a Pickup Shell like the Blackfoot fit?

The Blackfoot shell is a bit short in the wheelbase department for a TL-01, unless you raise it up monster style so the wheels don't need to fit the arches.

It is a standard touring size chassis though, so there are many hundreds if not thousands of shells that would fit.

What sort of car do you want it to be? Tourer? Drifter? Rally? SUV? Buggy? MT? The TL-01 can be any of these. It can even be hacked down to M- chassis size and be turned into a Mini if you fancy it.

The world is your oyster with a TL-01.  Turnip is spot on - it can be anything you want it to be.  It's not the most high-tech chassis in the world and it has its limitations but as a basher it's hard to beat, especially if you like to get creative with custom work.

As Turnip says the Blackfoot is too short for TL01 wheelbase.  It's also too narrow - the wheels will poke out from under the arches.  Also, like most of Tamiya's hard truck bodies, the arches are too small to get any wheels underneath them.  That said, it can be done: I currently have a (long-defunct) blackfoot-bodied TL01 that uses a shortened chassis (you can chop out the dead space behind the battery and re-connect it using home-made brackets or plates, the propshaft also needs shortening), and the arms and driveshafts from an M03, which are a direct fit.  These give you narrower track width.  I have had to replace my top arms with turnbuckles and run quite a lot of camber to get the front wheels tucked in under the arches, also I'm running Grasshopper front tyres all round because they're just about all I could find that would fit.  Rough Rider treaded fronts might also fit but I never tried and I'm not 100% sure (of the top of my head) that they'll fit M chassis wheels.

If you don't want to shorten your TL then you can longthenate your Blackfoot.  Some of the scale 4wd forums have got advice on how to do that.  Might be easier with two Blackfoot bodies, and it's a fair bit of work.

Alternatively, you could hack some crazy big arches into your Blackfoot body.  Here's my King Blackfoot-bodied TL01 scale rig.  The body was beyond restoration, so I chopped out the stock arches and used plasticard to create bigger ones.  It's supposed to be a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic survival truck, hence the beaten look.

Here's another TL project - this one has TL-01 arms up front and M03 arms in the back, this gives makes it narrow enough for the rear wheels to fit underneath the odd-sized HPI Grave Robber body.  The front arches on the HPI shell are silly big, which means 1.9 wheels fit nicely and have room to turn.  In fact there's so much space that I'll be adding some scale side-exit exhaust headers when I finally get back around to this car again.  I think I need to extend it too, the rear wheels are a bit too far forwards.

It's possible to shorten the wheelbase of the TL01-chassis to the appropriate 250mm for the Blackfoot body without cutting the monocoque itself. For my TL01-based Lamborghini Cheetah I did exactly that. Spacers between the rear lower suspension arm halves and spacers for the upper arms and lower damper mounts was basically all it took. For clearance, I additionally grinded a bit away from the chassis itself.

As for using SRB front tires on the TL01, it's possible to use the SRB wheels too. You just need to replace the hex hubs with the rear hubs of the re-release SRB. I did that on my M04-based VW Type 181. (The wheels are Buggy Champ front wheels with inserts from the Esci/Revell/Italeri VW Type 82 wheels glued on for the more or less authentic look only.)

Hmmmm.....    I have Buggys and i have Monstertrucks...  i`m only interrested in Off Road Cars, so a Rallycar or a "Scaler/Crawler" would be nice....

Maybe i try to fit a Lancia Rally Body on it....

Thanks for all the Inputs and Photos! I´m happy to read that the Chassis is that variable.

I don`t want to use other Arms or chop the Chassis, i want o leave it the Way it is, only adding Ballbearings and the Oildampers (laying around) and the ESC (laying around), also i`ve found some old Rally Block Tyres.

So,

my wife and I decided, the Projecht is not a Lancia Delta, it`s not a Peugeot 205, it`s not a Tyota Ceillia, it`s  not a Opel Ascona, it`s not a Fiat Abarth.....

...It should be a Back to the Future DeLorean.

Is there any DeLorean Body out ther that could fit a TL01??

Nothing current nor recent afaik.

But I recently spied someone handmaking one over at one of the scale builders joints I pop into now & again. He's stamping it out of thick aluminium foil, saw he's done the doors all seems pretty good. :)

So, i purchased a Lancia Delta Integrale Body....

The Feelin in myself tellls me that i Need accurate Lancia Rims and some Fitting 26mm  tyres...

So in the next days i will visit Tamico.de to get some  of theese Fitting Parts.

So, i´ve purchased some stuff:

Killerbody - Lexan Shell of a Lancia Delta Integrale

Tamiya - Rally Cockpit Set

Tamiya - Lancia Delta Integrale Rims

Tamiya - Rally Block Tyres

I Hope the Killerboy Shell and the Tamiya Cockpit will fit together....

How do i manage to get These togehter?

Should i glue the Cockpit to the Shell or should i Mount the Cockpit on the Chassis and fit the Shell on Top of that?

Is the TL-01 with a Sporttuned Motor the right Chassis? I´ve spent so much Money that i could almost buy a new one TT-01 Lancia Delta Integrale insteed....

But the Killerbody Shell lock much mr e nicer than the Tamiya one inni`t?

Ad i`ve do not have seen one in real live but the Killerbody have all Lights in the right place so i could fit a "Carson Light Unit" to that Body.

Soary fo my bad English.....   I do not speak Englih but i watch Englisg, American, Canadian and Australian Movies/Films.... so i can understand your Languages but i can`t speak r Write them in propper words/meanings....

I talk like Arnold Swarzenegger in "Hercules in NY" ....

If the car is to see use off-road, mounting the interior to the chassis and then setting the shell on top will make clean-up easier. You don't want to have the interior joined permanently to the shell, as if any dust or dirt gets in, it will be very hard to remove.

The TL-01 is a great choice for a budget rally car. Unlike the TT-01 which needs quite a few mods for really use, the TL-01 is good to go with just shocks and tyres.

some use Velcro to attach interior onto the shell & be removable for cleaning

there's not much mounting points on TL01 to attach interior to chassis unless you DIY make some scaffolding/platform

The TL-01LA made a great rally car with some cc01 or gf01 alloy shocks.

(springs from ta02T kits seem the best springs off road)

if you can find the parts, the LA conversion brings the car to life.

Cheers

I already have Oilshocks at home, the Tamiya CVA Mini Shocks.

Is there any Reason not to use the mini CVA Plasticshocks?

Ok, i will do that.

Also i was thinking of a 2nd Rallycar.....

I have 2 Version of each of my Models (Blackfot and Monsterbeetle, ect.) and i know that i have an old Blazing Star laying around, maybe that could make a good  (or better) 2nd Rallycar besides the TL01.

I've read that the Gearbox gets full of dirt if you do not seal it with Silicone or something similar.....

Do You really have to seal a TL01 Gearbox?

I've never sealed any Gearbox of my Models and none of them gets Sand, Dust or Stones in them....

Never heard of this being an issue with a TL-01. A smear of grease around the gearbox join is always a good idea on an off-road vehicle and the TL-01 is no exception, but it certainly doesn't need silicone.

The TL01 chassis halves have no overlap, so dirt indeed enters the gearboxes a lot more easily than on most other chassises. Maybe not fair to call it a design flaw as the TL01 was first released as a touring car, but with the release of the TL01B, the problem got really obvious.  We used to recommend to the customers to run a strip of strong tape the whole length of the underside of the chassis, with the ends "tucked in" behind the bumpers (TL01) or front bumper mount and rear plate (TL01B).

As the upper halves of the chassis is a lot stiffer and the fit a bit better, I have never cared about sealing the upper split.

Also worth getting the U shaped hinge pins for the front and rear instead of the separate screw type ones. Helps strengthen those weak lower arm mounting points on the chassis.

It's a superbly versatile chassis and is pretty easy to make almost weather proof by sealing up the MSc resister hole in the chassis side and cutting of the plastic tab. You can then get the electrics right on the base of the chassis and enclosed. :)

I just run a line of 1" tape along the spine full length, tuck the ends in under the Bolton bumpers. Electrical tape, gaffer tape, duct tape, fabric bookbinders tape, vinyl... anything goes.

Best effort goes to the fella who pulled out his Dymo labeller and typed out "FLIP ME OVER PLEASE" on his chassis bottom. B)

So, the Chassis is now open.

The Gears look mint, there is not a tiny bit of Dust inside. But there also is no grease inside.

I`ve installed the Ballbearings and i wonder if i should grease the Gears or if i should them greaseless....
