I never thought I'd be one for owning NIBs but over the last few years, when I've had a bit of cash going spare, instead of putting it into the pension or into the savings account I'd just buy another NIB to save for a "rainy day."  I figured if I ever have a serious illness or injury and I can't work and can't work on my more involved projects, I can at least vegetate on the sofa and build my way through some NIBs.

I'm also considering having a Build Day with some friends, getting together on a Saturday morning and building all day, rounding it off with a barbecue and a trip out to the fields the following day to test our creations.  Since not all of my friends can afford to buy new cars just for this day, I can loan out some kits for them to build.

Anyhoo, I haven't catalogued my NIBs yet, but off the top of my head, this is what I have:

TT01 chassis only, bought years ago as a complete kit, the body has long since been sold since I only bought it for the chassis..  Been keeping it for a shelfer shell, but sort of grown out of shelfer shells.

Mini Monte Carlo, M05, bought as soon as it was apparent the Tamiya/BMW deal was over and there would be no more Minis.  I have a few Minis but none of them have my own personal stamp of minification on them, so this will be a special treat for me when I finally get around to it.

Asterion, bought because I went through a phase of totally loving Tamiya's take on trophy trucks and also because I wanted the XV-01 chassis.  First it was going to be built stock with a motorsport-inspired paint job, then I was going to build it as a rally chassis for competition.  Now I'm not sure.  I don't really need yet another runner and I don't know anywhere I could race it.

Kyosho Volvo 850, pretty sure this is on a Mantis chassis, won in a raffle at the Revival.  Wasn't sure what to do with it so put it with my other NIBs.  Recently had a problem with ingrowing vines in my storage area and it's got covered with sap and dirt, so potentially it's lost some value rather than gained it, which is a shame as it's my only real vintage NIB.  Part of me it tempted to just build it and paint it black, thereby completely ruining any value it had :o

Novafox, bought this when it appeared the first run of Fox re-res was being discontinued.  Managed to get a bargain price from Tamico just before things went skyward.  It had been on my wantlist ever since the re-re was announced but I'd put off buying it until the discontinuation forced my hand.  A little while later the prices went crazy, I even considered selling it to cash in; I might have made money if I did because another batch was re-re'd a while later.

Robbe Laser powerboat, bought purely to be the load on a 1:10 scale boat trailer.  I'd have to remodel the interior to turn it into a smaller boat, as it's something like 1:14 or 1:16 at the moment.  However I never got around to making the trailer, so now it'll probably be the load on a 1:14 tractor truck trailer when I get around to making it.  I think it's 99% assembled so not sure it really counts as NIB.

Pajero CC01, again bought when there was a hint the re-re would be discontinued.  It's now been earmarked for future build because I want to do a side-by-side comparison of home-brew mods vs off-the-shelf hop-ups with my other CC01 Pajero.

Landfreeder, bought years ago at a local model expo because at the time I only had one CC01 and it was in bad shape.  The body got stolen for another project but I've acquired an all-new Land Cruiser 40 body to go on it.  Probably build it for use as a very light runner in full stock trim.

Sakura D4RWD, bought when it looked like I'd be getting into drifting and I wanted the option of running CS and RWD cars.  This was when I thought the D4 was the best entry into the drift scene.  Turns out there are other better budget cars out there that I should have gone for, but hey, the D4 isn't a bad car, so maybe it will eventually get built and drifted.  Since I've changed jobs I don't get to go drifting that often, as the 'local' club is 2 hours away.  It used to be just nextdoor to an office that I could work in from time to time (and get paid travel expenses), so it made sense to work there once a month so I could go drifting.

Tamiya Pole Trailer, got this from a mate and former TCer a few months ago.  He stumbled across a major haul of NIB tractor trucks and other cool stuff going for not much money.  Well, I say not much, it was about 2 months wages for him, but still way below market value.  He managed to sell the pole trailer to me for a bargain price and still put some money in his pocket, so good was the haul.  This will be built to go on the back of my Globe Liner (see last entry).

Jun Watanabe Hornet.  Never intended to get one of these but a mate turned up on Christmas Eve and handed it to me.  I was totally blown away.  He'd been through a hard time recently and my wife and I had helped him out a bit where we could, I didn't think much of it but he wanted to thank us, so he raided his stash of NIBs to give me something different.  Not sure what I'll do with it.  I'd always intended to start my daughter with a Grasshopper or a Hornet so maybe I'll let her have this one.  Or I might just keep this one in the box and buy her a stock one.

Grand Hauler.  This was a present to myself last year.  If you're still reading, there's a story to this.  My wife was off work raising our baby, her maternity pay had expired so she had no income.  I'd saved up some money to get us through the first year, so I said to my wife I would pay her a monthly wage out of that so that she could go out and do things.  Well, one month there was a big sale on, and she spent her entire monthly allowance in one shopping trip.  She came to me all sheepish and said "did you buy me a Christmas present yet?"  When I said No, she said "well, how about we call that spending spree a Christmas present from you?  That way I still get my allowance for this month.  And you can buy yourself a Christmas present of the same value."  So I did just that.  I went and bought a Grand Hauler, all for myself.  My first ever Tamiya Christmas present, and the biggest Tamiya box I've ever owned (still NIB in my bedroom, actually).  It was only a month later when I sat down and did the sums that I realised I'd been talked into buying my wife a massive Christmas present and then buying myself a massive present as well: way above what the budget allowed for.  The savings account took a big hit that month :o

Originally I was going to build this with a spare MFC-01 that I have lying around and use it for hauling duties on the local layout, but I've recently had a change of heart and I'm going to do something different with it.  Watch this space.

Globe Liner: actually not in my possession yet, ordered it on Friday, hoping it turns up this week.  Will build this one fairly quickly with the MFC-01 and the pole trailer and get it out onto the layout as soon as I can, I'm a bit tired of only having one rig to play with.

:)

I had 4, a Re-Re Sand Scorcher (that I desperately wanted at the time, but then never built  ), a 58013 March 782 BMW (the internal packaging is falling apart, so I thinking I will build this one day), a M06 Volkswagen Beetle and a soon to be birthday present (only days away :D) CC01 LandFreeder. Its down to 3 now as a couple of days ago I started to built the beetle as it will be the chassis for the Delorean project.

I do have several kits from parts, I can build several TA02s (Lancia Delta, Celica) and Ford Escort (I and II ) and a Lotus Cortina (whenever I managed to make the bodies), a red and blue Marui Galaxy from NIP parts, and a Metallic Midnight Pumpkin.

About over twenty I guess, I'm not sure what cars and parts exactly I have now because those are packed in the big boxes for a few years. Sometimes I found some parts which I bought before and forgot, then surprised by it.

I'd need to count them but I'm guessing somewhere between 90 and 100 waiting to build.
