I just got my self a Frog,it came in the post this morning.I was planning to use it as a vintage runner but its in better condition than I expected, the wheels tyres and body arnt great but the chassis is in really nice condition there are a few scratches under the gearbox but the metal plate at the front is spotless. Its missing the wire bits on either side and should it have a rear bumper because mine doesnt?

basicaly what I want to know is is it worth restoring it or should i just run it into the ground. How collectable are they and what are they worth?

Cheers

Thats a tough decision. The tires and body are whats is worth the most. you say those are not that great so really your just left with a decent chassis. I say run it but don't thrash it

Frogs have a nasty habit of stripping the differential gears out if they are not shimmed tight in the case. You might have to spend a bit of money there to get it in running condition. Re-release tires form a hornet is your best bet.

Hey,

Best thing to do is to do what you think is best. Do what your gut tells you to do. In my opinion I would put new style radio gear and a ESC unit in it do some preventitive maintence on it grab some tires like Jim said and enjoy it. Stop worrying what it is worth or it is going to be worth.[:D] Over the weekend my grandmother told me that you only live once and you know what coming from an old 88 year old woman I think that she is right

Over the weekend my grandmother told me that you only live once

Good advice.

I have been playing with the "run it or not" idea as of late too. I can pick up any one of my cars and wipe off a good film of dust[|)]..Do I ever look over them and think "Man,I bet this car would be a blast to run".YES!!!

If you like to collect things and look/dust them. Stick it on a shelf.I have been thinking about building my NIB rover this week.(to run of all things).

We are into a strange hobby..

If you collected full size classic cars you could take it out for a spin once and a while (and enjoy the badword out of it).If you blast a new built/resto. Frog in the mud ONCE it gets messed up.It makes you think[?]

Shodog says that the differential strips easily in the Frog?.. I must say, that the only things that wore out quite rapidly in the Frog i had when i was younger were the hexagonal driveshafts.. If this was ónly due to poor lubrication, i don´t know, but i remember restoring and rebuilding the driveshafts, (They were available at that time), 3 times, without ever having to worry about the diff.. And to the best of my knowledge, the hexagonal dogbones are not that easy to come by today.. But still...... I thonk you should run it... At least a little bit, just to get the feel of it, hehe...

Cheers..

Thanks for all your input.

I gave the frog a run today and it goes really well, when I got it it had an esc installed looks like an old one. As im on a bit of a tight budget at the moment I was really looking for a cheap runner for a bit of fun and Id really like to thrash the cars I have. So I think im going to part with it and get myself somthing a bit newer that I can easily find spares for. What sort of price do they go for (for some reason i cant check ebay at the moment,I hate that site anyway) would it be worth spliting it and selling the parts

If it is in good shape I would try and sell it as a complete car. I have seen frogs sell from $25.00 up to 100-300$ all depends on what people are willing to pay. Try posting it on the for sale forum here and see if any one is interested. If you have any pictures that would help.

As for the dogbone / Diff gear they both wear out fast. I have no idea how many I went through but I know I was always replacing dogbones and diff gears.

Tobys, I have a dozen Frogs and three Blackfoots, some sit on the shelf and others I drive. If your Frog came RTR with an ESC, then I say run it. You can pick up a set of New aftermarket rear tires on Ebay for next to nothing. One seller is selling the really cool Red or Yellow Troll Tires for $1 a pair. The Frog is my favorite vintage car because it is very versatile and there are a ton of aftermarket hop-up parts availible for it on Ebay. I have been building modfied Frogs for a year now and I still have an entire box of NIP part that I havent even got to yet. You can buy a rear bumper made by parma and the metal antennas on Ebay no problem. My point is, parts for the Frog arer just as easy to find as any Brand new car made today. Please take a look at one of my Frog below, I still have a few goodies to add to it but it looks vey good, it may never see the street, but I love to look at it, if interested I can post pics of my other frog too, or check out my showroom, some are in there.
