Alright good people's,

Back in the day I had a porker 959,  bought it off my mate for 50 quid.

I've seen all the countless threads about bringing it back and all the ifs and buts.

This thread is not about that!

It may be sacrilege to peeps on here but I personally think the 959 was wrong to be done in rally spec in the first place.

The 959 was primarily a supercar,  the rally history although significant was just a very small part of the car.

I think it should have been released as a poster car unliveried with the original wheels.

I always though the jacked up suspension of the rally car ruined the looks and made it look awkward.

So if tamiya wanted to do a reissue I couldn't see any problem if they did it like it should be on a more modern chassis with a finished body like the f40. Would make a change from the 934s!!!

What a 959 should look like :)

I have a white Matchbox 959.

I agree that it is a fantastic looking road car.

Would love to see that on the TA02SW.

Hey, why should it have to be unliveried? I give you the sole 959 adapted for Group C circuit use: The really rather lovely Porsche 961.

Tamiya did the tamtech Porsche 961!,  I'm by far no expert of the different Porsche models but it don't half look like a 959 to me but then don't all the rear end Porsches look the same🤔?

It basically was a 959 adapted for circuit use. It was quicker, lighter and had different suspension, but it was otherwise pretty much the same.

It's an interesting question, since there really are two versions of any Group B car: do you model the race version, or the homologation-required road version?

I think in person, the homologation cars are far more interesting and exciting; that thin veneer of civility with bits of tube frame poking out is just too cool, and the idea that you could hop in and drive off down the road makes it more desirable than a race-only car with a stripped interior. And a big 1/8-1/12 scale static model of those cars would be a great build, and a really special display piece.

But for an RC model, I think I prefer the race livery. Especially for a 959, which, to me, has always looked too much like an ordinary 911 in road trim. (I figured out a long time ago that, while I can appreciate them, I'm not a Porsche guy.) I would rather see a famous race paint job and half a dozen lights on the front when my little tribute to Group B goes blasting by. But that's just me.

Always thought the 959 was gopping in all its variants.  This bloke has the right idea.

Not quite a Covin. Has its own charm!

The 912, the early four-cylinder version of the 911, used an air-cooled flat four originally used in the 356, which had in turn borrowed it from the VW Beetle.
