Best Cheap N Nasty Trans and Receiver combo.

Recommended Posts

Alright good peoples,

I been building kits at a great rate of knots but I have no radio gear. All my kits have servos and batteries. Im not interested in multi binding and all that. Just want to buy 4 sets as cheap as possible without being absolute rubbish.  The less complex the better - 2 Sets I would prefer old school handheld and 2 New School Steering wheel type. Available in the UK and no more than 40 quid a set really.

Any suggestions ?

Cheers

PMP

I have some spare 27Mhz 2-chan receivers and some old school handsets spare - stick type, don't think I have any steering wheel type spare.

Sorry, my post was rubbish. Just after a recommendation for new ones, 2 stick type and 2 steering wheel types. There are loads of different brands on eBay around 40 quid a set and was just wondering what's best for the dosh! Not taken by the likes of flysky as they look a bit complex for me.

Stick ones are our of fashion, there is a cheap 2.4Ghz set from Carson, https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/255230/

Alternatively there is an absima : https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/294605/ no servo with that.

For wheel there is an etronix https://wheelspinmodels.co.uk/i/79660/

As you need quite a few sets you might want to investigate transmitters that will bind to several receivers.

For example, you can get the FlySky GT3B for £30-35 with a receiver, this will bind to up to 10 different receivers, which are about £4 each. They do a stick transmitter that will also bind to multiple receivers called the fs-i6, similar sort of price, but be aware that this is really meant for aircraft - so you have to fit a kit to make the throttle self return and even then, both sticks move left/right/up/down. I have seen a youtube video of a modified one to stop the sticks oving all directions, but have no details on how they did it.

There are other transmitters/receivers that will bind to multiple receivers - it might be worth investigating if you have several models as you can't drive them all at once!

I have a set of the Flysky GT2 and it works fine and is about as basic as you can get.  It just has trim adjustments I think, nothing else, so it pretty much like the old style 27MHz ones from that point of view.  It was about NZD$38 delivered from Banggood, so thats well under your 40quid per set mark.

The only stick one I could find down here was the Futaba T2HR which is just as basic but much nicer quality.  It is also much more expensive, I think it was NZD$120 but that included 2 basic servos.

Who will be running them?  If kids then I suggest finding a set with EPA on the throttle as you can slow the car down for kids without having to go for a different motor.  I ended up getting the Futaba 3PV for my son but he has 3 cars now and will probably come racing with me, so this will do him for that too

Any reason for wanting 4 individual transmitters? I was going to suggest the same as Mark, a flysky gt3b. They’re a lot simpler to use than they look, receivers are cheap as chips, and one remote will control all your cars, and can add more as you go. No need to re adjust trim settings each time, and if you’ve got kids you can set up a separate channel for the one they drive and wind the throttle right back. I’ve got the Absima one which is basically the same as the flysky and love it.

Need separate controllers because the whole reason (nee excuse to the "Wife" for spending loads of cash) for getting RC cars was it was something we could all do together as a "Family"   :)

I bought a cheapo basic Absima Trigger (CR2S V2) set yesterday from the local hobby shop - Was quite impressed really. Although ;light as anything still felt a bit more substantial than the cheapo controller that came with our RTR cars. So may get a couple more of them.

How does a 2.4G Steerwheel radio set for only £15.19 including postage in the UK grab you?

I have over 10 of these GoolRC 2.4G Radio sets and do swear by them, cheap as chips and work perfectly with numerous Tamiya's I have, they are basic enough but come with trims for throttle and steering and dual rate for steering, that's about it but that's enough for a car park user like me.

  • I just bought another 2 right now as this particular Ebayer is selling them for only £15 which is the cheapest I've ever seen them (I pay about £19-20 usually) - I have you to thanks for this @Poormansporsche as I wouldn't have been looking at these right now other than to give you an example :P

The advert says located in the UK with delivery between 10-12 days, can't be bad.

@Jason1145 They look like clones of the Spektrum DX2e... pretty cheap for £15!

I just bought 2 fs gt2b radios for $38 shipped each as well @Jonathon Gillham. Will chuck them in some rc's to offload on TM

That's roughly what I paid for the Absima Trigger (CR2S V2) from Tamico in their Christmas sale last year - I bought three. I've only tried one out recently and liked it - my first trigger/wheel.

You did well Jason - back up to £18.99 now.

How are the Absima ones? Can you drive it one handed?

It bound easily, feels light but OK, I actually preferred it to my weighty Core/Tamco stick controller.

I don’t know whether you could drive it one handed though and I’m not likely to get to try it just now!

@Poormansporsche might be able to answer that question?

I’ll buy more this Christmas from Tamico...

You’ll have to excuse the novice question but if you buy something like the GoolRC one and multiple GoolRC receivers for each model do the receivers bind to the transmitter? So once bound I could use my transmitter with any model as long as I’m only using one at once?

Im just making my mind up if I should go for that or the flysky. Both have cheap receivers but the FS look a bit fiddley and the Gool looks nicer to my eye as I’m a fan of the spektrum gear.
