Here is the beast, sat beside a Clodbuster for scale.

Electric start gave up, so I plugged in a battery straight to motor, gave it a tap and it spun no problem but wont work without tapping it.

Yes, that's what I suspected, There is definitely power getting to the motor when I press the button on the starter wand. I tested it with a 12v light up tester so the wiring is all good.

Going to strip it down tomorrow.

Edit to add, So all the starter wand does is send current to the glow plug, 1.2v? and spin this motor, 6v

I will whip the motor out and see if it runs while removed from car to see if there is anything else stopping it from moving.

It's strange though, as once I had it running/spinning, I left it spinning for a minute or so. so I thought any rust/dirt would be off brushes.

Your engine isn't gummed up is it?

Yep,  that's all the wands do.   Power to starter motor and glow plug.

The brush hoods could be full of dirt and grime causing the brushes to hang,  or they could be worn enough it doesn't have the torque to turn over the nitro motor.

brushed motor was removed and only works when spun by hand to get it started, new motor ordered..

I guess it's possible to fit a pull start?,

not sure what to do with this yet, bit of an impulse buy.

Am a big fan of the TGM chassis and run a Terra Crusher, Wild Commando and TNX they're brilliant cars!
FItting a pull start should be pretty much straight forward, the backplate will accept a pull start and the starter shaft is the same 8mm with a one way bearing. Don't replace the electric start though, it's far too convenient and you'll soon get tired of pulling the engine over again and again.

I replaced the electric start. Not used it much. Its noisy, dirty and smelly.  Just got to replace the connection on the glow plug and it will be good as new.

Might sell it to be honest, not using it much at all.

I love the noisy, dirty smellyness of nitro! Has more soul than electric :P

I don’t miss the nitro in my eyes.... and clutches. Don’t miss those either!

Put a new Glow plug in, had it out for the first time in ages. Went through a full tank of fuel without breaking down for the first time ever. Still feels really slow but was hitting 2nd gear without cutting out, but might need a little fine tuning.

Had a good run. :)

This is on ebay now. It would be suitable for an easy resto. Or just use as a runner. Not really my thing.

Watching!!!
