Rc_Tim_Offroad 0 Posted July 27, 2018 Evening This is my first post so go easy on me and I apologise for the questions I am a noob to this hobbie. I am after some advice I was lucky enough to get a top force 're issue kit and was wondering if the tamiya stock bz motor would be suitable for use in it. I need some advice on what pinion gear to use for that 23t motor. Also do I need to upgrade the differential gearing from the aluminium ones to stronger plastic ones?. If anyone can recommend some hop up / upgrade parts that are easy to get hold of I would be greatful. Thanks Tim
ThunderDragonCy 7779 Posted July 28, 2018 Hi Tim. If you haven't already then a full bearing set is a must for any tamiya. The gearset you speak of is 50529. I'll wait for some more experienced top force runners to come along but when I had the same chassis I found it very under geared, but that was with a brushless motor in it. Can't help on gearing for the bz, but I gear it's a great motor.
MICHAELs TopForce17 583 Posted July 28, 2018 My first upgrades to my top force were ball bearings, aluminum motor mount , 50529 gears and wheel hexs. I have no experience with the bz but i checked the showrooms and the 21t pinion seems to be ok. Though I would upgrade to a steel pinion. With my brushless setup I use a 19t pinion. Recently i got df03 shocks and ceramic diff balls. I have on order yeah racing graphite shock towers. Here are some links to items i ordered. http://www.rcmart.com/front-rear-graphite-damper-mount-tamiya-force-p-78929.html?cPath=595_744_754 http://www.rcmart.com/yeah-racing-ta01013bu-alum-modified-motor-mount-1621t-ta01ta02-p-27517.html?cPath=595_744_754 http://www.rcmart.com/yeah-racing-ceramic-diff-ball-tamiya-yba0002c-p-31237.html?cPath=595_744_707 http://www.rcmart.com/tamiya-53926-df03-alum-damper-p-19881.html?cPath=389_390 http://www.rcmart.com/tamiya-50529-touring-rally-plastic-gear-ta02-chassis-p-23261.html?cPath=595_744_754
LeftyAl 164 Posted July 28, 2018 The old rule of thumb for brushed was to reduce your pinion by at least a tooth or 2 from the stock size when putting a faster motor in. Some of it needs a bit of trial and error to get a good balance of performance and heat as all cars will respond a little differently. The main part is to have fun as you tune your car up 1
