Trying to get an MFC-01 to work with Spek DX6

Using same setup as two other working trucks, I built them all the same

  • On this one though, the unit doesn't register any throttle input but the servos all move as they should (steering and gear select ok)
  • Despite the steering working, the blinkers don't - no sound, no light
  • Horn works intermittently - sometimes it sounds, other times not.
  • Combo for shutdown doesn't work, rev doesn't work

Any ideas? tried 3 receivers and tried all receivers in another truck, so it's not the TX/RX, definitely the MFC-01 somewhere.
Gone thru reset process then re-teaching it the sticks etc. and steering/gears work every time but throttle hit and miss

Update: Tried a genuine Spektrum RX and it works fine

I got three trucks here;

1: Globeliner: Orange RX, DX6, MFC-01 with white/black/red wires = OK :D
2: Grand Hauler: Orange RX, DX6, MFC-01 with white/black/red wires = OK :D
3a: Knight Hauler: Orange RX, DX6, MFC-01 with cream/black/red wires = No Go :(
3b: Knight Hauler: Spektrum RX, DX6, MFC-01 with cream/black/red wires = OK :D

Why should swapping brands of RX work? - Would older MFC (cream/red/black wires) have a problem with Orange RX?
I tried 3 Orange RX so it's not that it was one that didn't work, none of them did.

No idea but the only dead cert thing about the problem one is its age - it was bought a good ten years ago and the wires that go to the receiver aren't the traditional white/red/black

Do you have some different radio gear to try ?

Even some old 27Mhz and just try 1 or 2 channels at a time ?

All my trucks & tanks are 40Mhz with Acoms TX & either Acoms or Futaba RX - these work fine.

It's only a specific combination in one rig that's the problem - everything works as it should except in that one truck - that truck has to use Spectrum RX/TX to work whereas the other two can use Spectrum TX with an orange RX (I have three orange RX and they all work fine)

For some reason one particular MFC doesn't work with one particular RX/TX combo but the other two will

Any chance you can switch Response time in your Spektrum tx? If so, try the slowest Response possible. Most issues with MFC Units occur because they are not made for modern fast Response tx's, that's why Tamiya recommends to use only analogue radios with slow Response transmission. Most modern tx are fast Response Systems with digital trims which cannot be detected properly by the MFC unit.

I've not gone into the menu too far, but that'd make sense - there was a bit of a delay on things like the horn
Two of the three MFC work fine, so it must just be down to the age of the troublesome one.
