Mine is on the way from Stella. Probably won't receive it in time for Christmas but hey-ho.

First re-release I have bought for about 18 months. It's not the 959/Blazer/Ford Ranger that I really, really want but it will do for now. ;)

My "Super" Astute will be getting "downgraded" into a standard Astute, with red paint, standard decals....since the Super Astute ones are awful and turn a beautiful buggy into an ugly one. Will also be fitting Hi-Caps and original black wheels but I do need to hunt down some original front tyres too.

Wow....I can barely believe this but mine arrived today from Stella.....only TWO days since it was sent from Hong Kong. I think that is a record time for me buying from them. EMS Speedpost really WAS speedy.

Check out the tracking history below....

Just in time for a nice Christmas build!

My Buddy has received his SA kit yesterday. So I´ll have a Closer look on his build the next days. He´s quite lucky, as he still has his old Super Astute, which was stunning back in the day, my first experience with TTC and a slipper clutch...

Either a Hobbywing 10.5 brushless, or a Tamiya BZ motor.

From the 2 manuals it looks like it should be pretty straight forward to convert an old TTC gearbox to the new type.

The gearbox plate needs changing as the new one appears to have a recess maschined into it and then the slipper shaft, spur gear, plates, spring and nut.

The manual shows the parts all being in bag B so hopefully this can be bought separately.

Tamiya 10.5 Brushless.

How does the Tamiya 10.5 compare to other manufacturers?  The reason I ask is that I have a Trinity 24KO 17.5 in my DN01/201 and is plenty fast.  However, I've read (not experienced) that some of the race oriented motors are a little more hopped up (i.e. a race oriented 17.5 being faster than a non-race oriented 13.5).  I have a 13.5 race motor that I was planning for a 4WD buggy but the 10.5 for a SA seems a bit over the top.

The Tamiya 10.5's would be well suited, they aren't blindingly fast

Tamiya brushless are very weak compared to other models. The 10.5 is 3370kv rated. I run Speed Passion 13.5R MMM motors in most of my cars and that 3300kv and that is a pretty old motor now. The 10.5R MMM version I have in my TRF211 3GL is 4000kV.

That said, gearing is key with brushless. When I theoretically down powered my DN01 from 4370kv sensorless with 60a ESC to 13.5 3300kv sensored with 120a ESC I adjusted the gearing accordingly (from around 9 FDR with 4370 to just under 7 FDR with 13.5) and it doesn't seem slower. The acceleration is still plenty enough for me! If there are enough gearing options to get the FDR down to around 7 for 13.5 or 6 for 17.5 it will be plenty quick enough.

I have an SA under the tree, seemed rude not to.

So on that I have a new Super Modified lay in wait.

Any ideas on gearing lads? It'll be run on nimh to start, with a Futaba MC850c, so should be fairly nimble without being insane.

Also, wanted to ask as i like to tinker, anybody tried the Dynastorm body on the Astute platform? may take a bit of trimming but could be close, just not sure if it would snuggle over the undertray?

I had my parents buy the kit for me just like back in the 90ies... I'm 38 now and they are around 70 ;) Still somehow nice to get a toy buggy for Christmas, hehehe.

Has anyone had any issues with the clutch slipper main shaft not lining up straight?

I know that sounds weird , but it is adjustable I think

I will look at the main shaft in the morning, as it sits  now it is a modded roller

Mods include Dyna Storm front tower, re re high caps, alloy counter gear support bracket, 850 bearings into the steering arms and a 11 T Super Modified motor,

Once the slipper shaft is sorted I will look at fitting uni joints too.

Edit, spur shaft sorted, check fitment of the A3 part, don't just wildly throw in it lol, it adjusts the alignment of the shaft

I also had to shim the end float out of the spur shaft, between the A3 part and the large E clip

The car looks stunning! What springs do you use on the Hicaps? seems a good fit regarding the diameter!

I am not sure about the o-rings in BOTH of the rear wheel axle and joint cup. It makes the drive shafts stuck a bit, meaning if I adjust the upper rods to the 26mm distance as stated in the manual, the rear wheels need more force to be turned as if I set the rods to 28+mm or remove one of the o-rings. Anyone else experienced that? By the way, I shimmed both the rear axles in the uppers and the differential gear in the gearbox, which I both found to have a lot of play by factory settings.
