Usa-1

Recommended Posts

I hava a bit of a collection of old kyoshos now i think, a Porsche 911slant nose, blizzard (heavy metal) (brushless and waterproof), and several turbo optima mid buggys. One NIB and one runner, with 6,5 turn brushless 3cell lipo. It's fast:)
My latest addition is a USA-1, bought from eBay. a bit dirty and ugly body, but a great base from a complete rebuild and shelf-queen:)

No critical parts missing, but a lot of the tie rod ends was broken. I have a lot of kyosho-parts, so replacing them was no problem. There is a shaft from front steering to the rear steering, which is missing. Can't seem to get it anywhere, so i bought a 4mm rod and will try to fabricate a new one. Wish me luck:)
I dismantled the whole truck, and washed all the parts in the dishwasher to get rid of the sand. someone have had some fun at the beach here.)

I really think that the building quality for this truck is extremely poor. but i'm used to optima mids and had a tuned up traxxas e-maxx a few years ago, so the quality of the Usa-1 was good in 1990 i guess.
anyway, got a new body from TBG, and new grille, bumpers etc. and painted the body. The only thing missing now is some hardware for fastening the body parts and pinstriping. And i do want to test the truck at some point:)

And 2 swb's, one shelf queen, and one runner. the one in front has 6,5t bl setup.

2 lwb, the one in left is mostly complete, have body as well. I just haven't finished it yet:) the right one mostly for parts.

porsche and BL blizzard/heavy metal (well used actually, very fun to drive!20180909_135705.thumb.jpg.7b503ad804cf36eb027226832fd405c8.jpg

and last but not least:

my runner with 2 cell lipo. have tried 3 cell as well. very fast

And a LOT of spare parts which i didn't take any picture of:) it's very likely to break something when you drive a swb optima mid brushless:)

Awesome. Guess it will fly with a 6,5 brushless. I love the Mids too.

Had to fabric the rod between the front and rear steering, it seemed impossible to get it anywhere. Used 4mm rod and bent it:) 99% fitment, good enough for me, works perfectly:)

Sorry for no recent updates, but here is the finished usa-1, and my new, almost finished kyosho. I even painted the interior, turned out great. To bad the jaguar xj220 chassis is some of the worst kyosho has ever come up with. At least it looks great:)

I see they based their model on the concept car, rather than the production car. The concept had a 48 valve version of Jaguar's V12 in it, while the production car had a twin-turbo V6.

What chassis does it have? Is it Mid-based, like the Corvette and most of their other replicas?

I must confess, it doesn't look like it'd handle well. It has really long overhangs and that detailed interior is going to raise the centre of gravity alarmingly. Nice model, though.

Is there a optima mid-based corvette? i thought it was only a 2wd nitro ultima-based model? have a lwb optima mid chassi, perhaps i should make me a corvette 1/10? at least i have an 1/1:)

Anyway; the jaguar xj220 is a joke. doesn't handle very well, very poor 4wd-design, little opportunities for cooling because of the interior-design and it's heavy. Here are some pics:

Again: this car belongs on the shelf, where it's staying forever unless i put it on ebay:)

Wow. That is... odd. It seems Kyosho built a (terrible) custom chassis just for this model, as I have never seen anything like that before. I'm particularly taken with the fact that the whole rear end is mounted on two metal beams, which they were preumably hoping to be able to use as a way of offering different wheelbases on future models.

Do you know when this was released, as it would be interesting to see when it came out compared to their Mid-chassised scale cars?

There is some information about Kyosho's Mid-based scale cars in this thread here.

It seems the Mid-based cars included a Nissan Skyline, Ferrari F40 and a 'Chevy Stock Car', which could be either a NASCAR or the oval sprint car they released around that era. I was certain they did a Corvette ZR-1 on a Mid chassis, too, and that it was the first in the series, but it could be that I have misremembered that and it was actually on another chassis.

There was also a weird open-top, two-seater Japanese sports car which came out in that series, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. That may have been 2WD, though.

i think it was released in the early nineties. and it is one more car with this chassi, a lamborghini diablo. and yes, the wheelbase is adjustable:)

That means it was released at the same time or shortly after the Mid-chassised cars. Weird. I can't understand why they would do that. Especially since the Mid cars were clearly infinitely better to drive, had much better spares availability and didn't need any significant new tooling to build.

Kyosho did have some odd models out around that time, though. While I was trying to remember the body styles for the Mid-chassised cars, I thought this might be one of them, but it turns out it was a 2WD Ultima-chassised car.

I give you the rather peculiar Kyosho Nissan Saurus.

Thank you, i bought the saurus from germany:) needed the wheels and tires, since they are the same as the zr1.  And they are expensive:) might sell the saurus body then.
