Shodog’s SCX10II.

Recommended Posts

I’ve been getting more into the crawler scene lately.  My son has a couple of crawler rigs and after running my F350 Hilift along side of the SCX10II I bought him last Christmas, I realized I needed something more nimble.

I bought a dirt cheap used SCX10II chassis from a friend that was fairly beat.  He ran it through mud and water then left it to sit. I had to replace all the bearings and clear off most of the rust.  I’ve restored 35 year old cars that were in better condition than this year old truck.

All clean and back together.  I used a Futaba 2.4ghz receiver, Hitec 7950 servo and a castle mamba X motor system. Chassis has vanquish shock mounts and links.  Rc4wd Dick Cepek aluminum wheels with Proline Hyrax tires

It climbs like a little Billie goat.

The body that came with the truck looks good from far and far from good so I bought a replacement Proline Hilux.  I’ve been wanting to try out a color combo using Tamiya’s PS-63 light Gun Metal.  I laid down the PS-37 clear red first then backed it with the light gun

the color is beautiful and I’ll use it on some touring car bodies

I know that feeling. I thought my CC01 was great on trails and enjoyed running it everywhere offroad until I got my girlfriend a Wraith Spawn and realized that I couldn't go anywhere that she could.

That gearbox wasn't sealed? The previous owner must have really just given up on it to let it become that way.

The paint came out great. Really nice color.

Great work as usual - there's something so relaxing about the crawler scene.  I really need to get out to some more local events with my old SCX10.

Wow that's rusty!!  Good save on this one.  I have a lot of fun just putting around with a scale truck and just watching the suspension work.

Very nice paint job, excellent color.  I'm still hanging on to my Tamiyas on the trails.  My custom Hummer will just about keep up with my fathers SCX10II/TRX-4.  I'll get a real crawler one of these days, but its fun being the underdog.

I took my son’s out this weekend to run the trucks on Mount Diablo. Scx climbs like a mountain goat.  Here I am towing my Son’s RC4WD Gelande up a steep rock using a chain.  Esc in the Traxxas completely died. I need to replace the Esc and steering servo. The stock electronics in the traxxas just aren’t up to snuff.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Here in Cali we are fortunate to have some awesome places to run.

After lots of bashing I ended up breaking the plastic C-hubs in the front axle. Resisting the urge to bling out this truck I went back with the stock plastic axles.  I have a set of the aluminum C-hubs, knuckles and rear collars for the axles on order.  So I’ll switch out the rear axle casing when that stuff comes.

The toyota SR5 body and Proline hyrax tires kind of gave the truck a toy look and I wanted to go a different route. I picked up an Axial blazer body a couple months back and I’ve finally got it trimmed out.  I also added a set of RC4wd rally wheels with some Proline BFGoodrich tires.

Parts came in from China.

I replaced the rear axle housing with a stock plastic one and installed the aluminum parts to the front and rear axles.

Finally there has been a break in the weather this weekend so I can start spraying the paint on the body.  Taped off nearly the entire body to spray the black.

Then sprayed the Sky Blue Anodized Aluminium (PS-49) leaving a strip on the botttom for the rocker color

Was torn between silver or white. Went with white as it felt more old school

made a final sanding with my Dremel to clean up all the edges. Drilled holes for all the body parts and applied all the stickers I want to.
