Just picked up my new CC01 D90 from my local hobby shop! I wasn't expecting it until October, but they got it in today. :D

It's got the TBLE-02, Silver Can, Oil shocks and a bonus surprise...lighting kit!  All for £199.99.

I got it from MWM Warbirds at Rochester Airport. A nice bunch, they make a decent cup of coffee too.

I live a 10 minute walk from the airport. So very handy for buying parts and getting advice. Get to see some cool planes walking across the apron to the shop as well! Won't be starting this for a while I have another build in progress, a Cessna 180 rubber powered kit. Once that's done the Landy will be fair game.

Started building the D90 about 2 weeks ago. Chassis is built. Painted the shell this evening came out ok...ish. I hate doing multi colour lexan bodies!

So far hop ups include, bearings, barrel springs and a Austar 55t motor. Should have some Austar 3 piece wheels coming in the next few days.

This is my 1st CC01, really enjoyed the chassis build, but I can see where I'd like to make some changes already and I haven't even run it properly yet. I have locked the rear diff after doing some testing on the front room over a pile of cushions (Wife was out). What is with that ridiculous front bumper bull bar thing! It's coming off. Going to cut the skid plate flush with the brick. There are a couple of bumpers in the kit, I think vestigial parts from an older CC01 kit. Looks to me like this bumper will fit under the front of the Defenders lexan bumper and give it a bit more substance. And the tyres will have to be changed out for something a little softer. I want something that looks scale, not too knobbly, but not taller than the kit tyres. Any recommendations?

I need to tidy a little bit of wiring and sort out that fugly front bumper, I'm well happy with the body colour and wheel combo though. I'll try and get some better outdoor photos, but it will have to wait until next weekend due to it being pitch black at 1700hrs when I finish work.

1st outing today. I was running around the rally cross track with a couple of other new build Defenders. Had a real blast just running round the track and doing some crawling on the infield. Ran around for about 1hr maybe more on just a single 2100mah Nimh...the 55t motor is frugal and keeps everything nice and scale. Really pleased with the D90. The other guys were just as happy with theirs. They plan to get 55t motors too. I'd like to see just how far it can go on my Core 4000mah lipo pack.

The blue one stands out, those white wheels are the key.  Lovely.

Not a single body post trimmer between the 3 of you though ?

Thanks, I went with PS4 Blue. The wheels are Austar 617s. I like to leave the body posts long for protection in the event of a roll over. All my cars are runners, don't do shelf queens.

The one time I did cut them short I had to buy a whole sprue to get replacements, so I could fit a different shell!

I got round to fitting the Defender with a roof rack and light bar today.  The mud is 1:1, unfortunately I couldn't find any 1:10 mud...sorry guys!

Made a tow bar today, I've just got some finishing touches to add and I'll sort some pictures. Also did a front bumper chop, removed the bull bar, cut down the skid plate and fitted the LandCruiser 40 front bumper. I just need to get some ally angle from work tomorrow and I'll make a cover so it resembles an after market front bumper. Then it's time to think about a trailer.

Modifying these CC01 is quite enjoyable.:)

Bumper and skid plate are on!...Looking a bit tougher now and gone is that nasty bull bar!

I cut the plastic skid plate flush with the front of the brick, then fixed the new alloy bumper bar to the plastic Land Cruiser bumper, sandwiching the skid plate between the two. I put a couple more nuts and bolts through the underside.  Hopefully the swagged holes will protect the bolt heads.

I'm toying with making some end caps for the bumper so it doesn't look so much like a piece of angle painted black and a little more scale.

Tomorrow I want to remove and paint the tow bar. Satin black like the front bumper. I think I'll make a rear step for it first though.

Very nice!

Out of interest, I presume the Defender door/side stripe decals on all three examples are part of the Tamiya kit - if so, I wonder why they are not shown on the box-art?

Yes they are. They were shown in most of Tamiya's pre release photographs, but as you rightly say not in the box art. Very odd indeed. I like them, and because they are a white and shades of grey will complement just about any colour.

I'm ever so slightly tempted to give the Defender a clean, but it has more character muddy! Hey ho!

It'll get a strip down and re-build on the other side of winter.

Good to see the Defender getting out and dirty :).  Lots of great places to run it in your neck of the woods. Where people 'used' to ride motorbikes years ago at the top of Boxley Hill for one. Maybe an Italian job type run with all 3 Defenders along the Pilgrims way?

I grew up in that part of the world. Chatham, Gillingham, Parkwood, Wouldham, and Oad Street Nr Sittingbourne.

That Warbirds Shop must of opened up after I left. Man & Boy was a regular haunt as a Kid staring longingly at the Tamiya RC 4x4 Hilux in the display cabinet.

Your not wrong Re-Bugged, lot's of great woodland to explore locally. I used to ride off road all around the Bluebell Hill area. I had a 2002 DRZ400E. We plan to go further afield in the future maybe do some coastal paths and disused quarries. Plenty of those in Kent!

Saddly, nothing has happened to the D90 over the last week or so, as I have been struggling with a lung and sinus infection on top of a cold. Starting to pick up a bit now, so hopefully over the weekend I can get some jobs finished and post some updates. I have decided to give the chassis a lift. 10-15mm would be nice. And as  recommended above by Kingfisher, add a skid plate to the underside. I have also seen a good idea for creating more clearance by moving the lower links out to the side of the chassis rails, going to look into that also.

How much of a lift can you get away with on stock arms/links/drive shafts?
