after years of bodged up repairs and broken parts - ive finally fixed my monster beetle [:D]

i've just given it its first ever run in over a year, with a new gearbox fitted - and its running really well!

best of all, no gearbox crunching sounds. ive got the suspension set up pretty soft so when it pulls away the torque of the motor forces the rear suspension down a bit. hopefully that extra movement will help take some strain off of the diff.

this is the first time ever, since ive owned it, that ive run it without using any bodged up/superglued/home made bits!

maybe i should change my name now [:P]

Wow, congrats on your Beetles rebirth, then... Perhaps i should also go and give my own a run. The driveshafts are of course worn out, but what the heck, i´ll just dive into the parts bin, and fetch a new set. (giggling), and perhaps fit a complete set of new gears now that i am at it?

No, seriously, you ought to change your name as you say, and the above: "mymonsterbeetleisfixed" sounds like a great idea!!

Keep it up and runnin´

Cheers..

When I first had my MB I found that the rear end squatting on starting caused excessive wear on the drive shafts!

I had to firm up the rear end to stop it dipping and it seemed to make thm last a bit longer.

the rear end squatting started to "bug" me after my second test run [:P] the rear bumper was scraping a bit on the gravel in the driveway, so ive firmed it up with some shock spacers [:)]

the pinion mesh also sounded a bit ruff on my first run, but i soon found out it was the old motor i'd fitted that was making a racket! [:0] i replaced it with a brand new 540 and the car sounds alot happier [:D]

i'm using those tyres that all of us bought ages ago from that nitro monster truck mag, they give lots of grip but the pin spikes are wearing off them pretty fast!

im really glad ive got my bug up and running again. it was originally my cousins who had it from new. the parma 17 turn super stock motor he fitted was partly responsable for the mess it ended up in i think! [:P]

Glad to hear you´re on the "go" with the Monster Beetle. The only thing on mine to fix is the extreamly, awefull bad paint job that i allways complain about when i mention my MB. But i´m going to leave it be for this year. It´s so much fun to ride anyway. Take it easy with it and post some action pictures if you can [8D]
