What's funny is that, these days, I don't like to drive, much.

I do very little driving these days.  There are local race clubs, but I don't really enjoy racing, especially indoors, so I don't go there.  I'd do more vintage outdoor racing if I had the time and the events were local - one of the Iconic Cup events is about 65 minutes drive away but the rest are 2.5hrs plus.  It's not just the time but the cost of fuel that I can't absorb every month.  It's a shame because the one round of the Iconic Cup that I took part in was the highlight of this year - good friends, good racing, good weather and good fun.

I'd love to bash more locally but nobody else is interested.  So I run my own cars on the lane behind my house to test the latest modification, probably do about 60 seconds driving then put it back on the bench or put it away.  That's it.  Running alone is just so boring.

So I'm more of a tinkerer than anything else.  The scale crawler scene is great for that.  I'm really looking forward to the Scaler Nats next week, although it's a 4 hour drive away.

A lot of people told me not to bother investing big bucks in a big rig because they said I'd get bored after one or two meets - but it's just as good as the scale crawler scene for constant modding and updates, and there are so many really good builds at the clubs for inspiration that there's always something new I can be working on and always a new direction in which I can stretch myself.

For years the old Hornet/Grasshopper were my go to fun Tamiya Wheelers. After a very long time the bouncing around did get old and I have just recently moved to an old school Fox for my daily bashing on mild terrian. The Fox still has that "tamiya" feel to it without being sterial like some other more modern buggies.

When I'm looking to just go all out and blast Across a field at 50+ Mph I reach for my old school Traxxas Stampede with a VXL running 3S.

Good question.

When I was younger 4WD was so exciting.  But now I find "perfect" boring.  Wild Dagger just goes where I tell it to go.  Sometimes it just feels like a video game... I like how you must "tame" a 2WD.  I like Wild Willy 2.  It's fun.  But I can see how one couldn't drive it for too long.  The novelty of wheelieing does wear out.  Maybe I should try tinkering with dual rates or something. So the acceleration would take a second, to take the edge off of the "punch."  I don't know if that's possible...

I drive whatever I'm working on.  In that sense, "driving" is a side-effect of "restoring/building."  The excitement is in seeing how it runs for the first time, or seeing the difference after some mods.  Since I prefer 2WD, all of my 2WD cars get a "sticky-limited-slip-differential" treatment.  LSD can move a 2WD almost as well as 4WD.  (According to British army reports, German army's lightweight 2WD VW with a limited slip differential, a flat bottom pan, and portal gears made it equally capable as the 4x4 Jeep)  Seeing some improvement like that, is what tickles me.

I've got a front suspension kit for the Lunchbox last week.  (Yes, I got it after @smirk-racing posted about his. By now, it should be well known that I have a sad amount of will to resist influence...resistance is futile!).  It will be interesting to see the difference.

Recently, I've been thinking crawling would be fun too.  I did a crawler upgrade to my TLT-1, but the Monster Beetle tires just can't grab onto any surface.

So, my driving is "testing out what I've done" kind of driving (with a 2WD buggy preference).

I’d like some to get this kit for my Lunchie, but they only seem to be for sale from the States.

Where did you buy yours from?

I do wish the big rigs and construction equipment were more popular here in the US. The photos I see of the meets make them look like a lot of fun.

CRP sells them directly through ebay.  The link below has "BAC" + "9125."

The "BAC" has the most important things like arms and the uprights, and pins for them.  I don't know what "9125" pins are for.  At least, the bolts would be useful for attaching the upper arm to the chassis.  (Upper arms are not provided)

BAC alone: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BASIC-FRONT-SUSPENSION-CONVERSION-Tamiya-Lunch-Box-Midnight-Pumpkin-RC-Team-CRP-/232911749624?hash=item363a9f41f8

I've always had a lot of fun from my TXT-1, and the clod buster is one of the few vehicles that comes back in the same number of parts it went out in. I also enjoy driving the Mad Bull on the beach, and the Wild One / Fav are also seeing some regular-ish use. Hotshot / Super Sabre are also fun to drive.

I also am really looking forward to being able to drive the War Rig with the bodyshell completed on it, just for the sheer size, weight, and power of it :)

This, it's slow and bouncy, it doesn't jump, seems to push obstacles down, rather than climb up them, it's only running silver cans and 2sLipo but it's still good fun. And It also has brake lights, headlights and indicators. :)  :)

Or this, but this spends more time broken than running, is a handful, and needs 3 batteries which means one run and then charging for 3 hours, or I can use the batteries in the clod and they will last all day.

It's usually me that breaks it, my 6 year old can drive it fine. lol

1)  It's a beach buggy.

2)  It has yellow wheels.

3)  The driver is a cowboy.

How could anything top this for fun !  I mean c'mon, the driver is a cowboy..... Wow.

Looking back it has always been the Lunchbox and WW2 that have given us the most pleasure as a family, but we did have a Blackfoot Xtreme which we literally drove the wheels off and it went almost everywhere with us.

I think for me a hopped up LB for park and street running or our Sand Scorcher for the beach 👍

Note that the kit offered by Ampro Engineering on Shapeways is purpose-built for the Lunchbox and fits a little better than this kit. This kit is “pretty good”, but the Ampro kit is “nearly perfect”.

The CRP kit is a little stronger but I have bashed both quite hard and neither is the weak point (you might damage either one, but you are just as likely to cause other damage). The one time my Ampro arm broke, so did a number of other stock parts (turns out brick walls are stronger than Lunchies).
