As always when I see any of Mooseys sweet cars, I get inspired to go polish mine [:)] This time around it was the WW - I noticed some details on his WW that I yet hadn't finished on my WW, so I decided to take some time out and finnaly get it done. I'm talkng about the lettering on the wheels. After doin' all the lettering I still wanted the tires to look better, and noticed that the rubber on the tires themselves, could have some attention. I sprayed them with a fine silicone spray used to keep various rubber parts nice and soft. Turned out great!

thanks Moosey for the inspiration [;)]

yeah, it's a hassle allright - took me two nights, I do all the lettering three times in total. First I use the side of a thin brush and outline all the letters, one by one. Then I fill 'em in one by one, and then use a dissolvent to remove any spills outside each letter, then do a final coat to get a godd white look on the letters, and go over it all with a brush and dissolvent to remove any paint outside the letters.

Takes ages, but makes the end result so much better I think (for some models - this is a clean SQ, so it works, but for some of my other more weathered SQ WWs, I don't do it)

WW/Blazer tires are ok to do, RRs ones are a walk in the park, the paddla tracks ones on the SS is more of a challenge due to size of the letters, but I think the outline proceedure I started to do first will easy that job as well [:)]

Yes, i also have to say that you have done an amazing job on those tyres. I also like that type of detail-work, but i haven´t really got around to looking at the tyres on my own WW1 yet. But after seeing this, i might retrieve it from the closet darkness and see if it´s possible to get them to look as great as yours.

I will agree wtih you on your opinions about the other tyres as well. For the momenti am awaitng the arrival of my first RR, won on ebay, and on it´s way from the uSA. As far as i know, it is fitted with 4 brandnew rims and tyres, and therefore super-easy to do the tyre touch-up on.

Mu SS on the other hand is a different matter, mainly because the tyres have seen better days, and the lettering is a bit worn. But a friend of mine has got a brandnew complete set of rims and tyres for that one also, so that will make the lettering a lot easier to "fix up"..

Congrats again on a job very, very well done...

Cheers.

Great job, Simen !

And as johnny_bravo asks, what kind/make of spray did you use on the tires ?

(PS: I still have not swaped my front WW1 wheels, what a shame ;-)

Hi all, I was wondering what type of paint people like to use for painting the lettering, I seem to remember doing it years ago, think I used Tamiya's P.C paint but really can't remember.

With regards to using silicone spray on rubber, it seems to be a little controversial, I used to use it until I read some stuff on the web about how the silicone can accelerate the ageing process and cause the rubber to dry out faster, some people that restore 1:1 scale cars don't seem to like silicone much claiming it leads to cracks on tyres and dashboards. I have no idea if that's true or not but what I like to use now instead of silicone is glycerine. I soak in glycerine for a few days then wash off the excess, rubber comes out looking quite good.

Hi, I got the glycerine from a chemist shop, it's used mainly for sore throats and dry skin, it might be available in supermarkets too.

I'm still interested to know what type of paint people like to use for their tyre lettering.

Tried some glycerin on a fairly dry + faded wild willy tyre today ,. rubbed it in with my fingers and wiped off excess after a couple of hours,. now nice n shiny[:)]

hey simmens if you want to add more realism to your ww,drill the front light and take some jugg roll bar light ,they fit perfectly, whit a light kit,it will turn awsome![;)]

Not sure if you would want to modify a new built classic like the Willy but you can see how to do the modification in my showroom. I did it to my Wild Willy 2 and it does look awsome for those late night runs. I have to credit Kaindi with the inspiration for this mod as he did it to his WW2 using Hilux lenses [:(] VERY expensive to do that these days but the results were truely amazing.

I've always admired that light job on the WW2 Toykid - something I always meant to ask is how does it affect the car not having the bolt mountings for the grill? Did you glue the grill into place, or just hold it with the tiny bolts at the bottom?
