Those thread taps should probably only be used on carbon reinforced parts, I tried using it on some standard plastic parts and all the holes stripped out soon as any load was put on the screw. I then had to basically bin all the plastic parts I used the tap on. That being said it was still way stronger than if I’d used a generic 3x0.5 with the material relief, (which you would need if you want to thread tap metal).

No it was the Tamiya thread forming tap, i did state a tap with relief (thread cutting as you say) pretty much ruins everything plastic but is needed for metal.

The thread forming tap still makes a cut bigger than a screw does so in soft plastic it makes the hole too big, it does work but it’s not as strong as just screwing the machine thread screw in on it’s own. This being said tamiya normally use the traditional self tapping screws in their soft plastics.

Yep, I agree with you.  I missed the distinction you made between the taps originally and later edited my post to null out my text; you must have read it before my edit took effect.

Crumbs. Not what i wanted to read. So just screwing the screw straight in to the plastic is the best option and not tapping it out 1st?

If you want to use machine threads yes. If your never going to use the kit, it won’t hurt to pre tap. Tamiya does vary it’s plastic quite a lot, if the plastic is stiff it’s probably ok to pre tap, the rubbery plastics are best left for self tappers.

It is quite stiff. I'll tap a couple of holes that aren't important and see how they hold up. I'll defo be using machine screws as I've got them. This build be used once round a track for testing and just to see how it holds up. Otherwise it's living on a shelf.

Are you using titanium hop up screws? Pretty soft!

I've used them in all my builds and screw a steel one in first, the heads round off very easily.

I was looking into the Ti Screws but it's gonna work out expensive unless I can buy none tamiya ones. Or I need to go through the manual and see how many of each one I need and look into a screw kit that covers everything I need.

But I was just looking at stainless steel as I have them at home already. I need to figure out the front hub carriers.
I need to compile a list in order of things I need to buy to build. I may follow the manual for the build even though I can build it with my eyes closed. Lol.

If your keeping it completely Tamiya parts only then you have to use Tamiya titanium screws! £££££ especially the correct JIS type.

I’m hoping that the 84360 tb04 screw kit will have all the screws I need for mine. This won’t be purely Tamiya. Ultimate build involves GPM for lighter or stronger parts. This is the mocked up chassis. I was saving it, but it seems like a good point to share it,

Carbon prop shaft has arrived. And a set of bearings. Thinking of TT02 diffs as they are light weight with DF02 hardened drive cups. And probably XV01 universal drive shafts as I can't really justify the cardon shafts. But I do really need to sourcesome front uprights. Having seen @ThunderDragonCy
and the TRF416 or 418 they may be an option if they fit nicely with the TB Evo 2 arms

Sooo... The TT02 diffs are on order. Just the normal ones not oil filled ones. And I've accidently managed to order a set of TRF black shocks. 42102 and browsing ebay a set of TA04 racing hub carriers 53458. I'm hoping these will fit nicely into the Evo arms I've no idea if they will fit or not but they sounded cool and just getting the correct TGR uprights would be too easy.

The ta04 racing hubs have an extra ball connector so it can be braced of the top chassis deck giving it a triangulation type support. 

A bit like front strut compression joints used on mk1 and 2 escorts for rallying but upper instead of lower. 

Can you brace if the chassis with a ball connector? 

I'll dig my 04 out and take a picture if you want?

Not a great photo but it does look like the 04 racing carrier and upright will fit the tb evo arm👍

Oooo hopefully I've made a good choice here. And now thinking if I can use the extra ball connector to brace them.... Or more importantly where I can brace it to on the chassis.

TT02 diffs have arrived. And i think i may be able to use the extra brace points with the TA04 hubs on to the TB chassis ive got a place in mind.
