Does anyone here have any experience with the Associated RC10 B4? I am considering buying one and I'd like to know if they're any good and if it's worth refettling a second-hand one?

I have one, it was a relatively cheap second hand one.

They are a brilliant buggy. They are made for the track so not really a basher. Probably about the most well balanced and planted RC car I've ever driven.
Endless spares out there for them and hop ups, especially aftermarket. They were the go-to buggy for racing for quite a few years.

In short, I'd get one.

Ah. Glad you said that, as it appears I bought one this evening. Got fed up with buying projects which have to keep stopping for reasons to do with age and awkwardness, so I got one on eBay for £45. I have all the electronics already, so I'm hoping I can just plug in and go when it arrives.

Doubtless there will be something which needs sorting when it arrives, but at least the spares situation will mean I can fix it.

Well, I did. And after all of the above and after I purchased some spares and a replacement shell for the car, it hasn't arrived and I am having to chase the seller through eBay.

I am beginning to think that my efforts to start driving RC again are somehow cursed.

I am now looking at the Grasshopper II chassis in my garage with the weird, wonky steering and thinking "It couldn't be that hard to fix that, could it?" I even have a couple of unpainted VW shells in there, too, which I could paint up and slap on to it. But that would be my fourth attempt to get a chassis working and I am at the point where it might be easier and more economical to just buy a new one.

******......That sucks. Keep chasing after a B4 though. Worth having one imo.

Go on, restore that old Grasshopper II. Restoring old Rc cars is actually kind of fun/satisfying. I find a lot of pleasure in getting something that was old and not working back to life again.

I did fix up that old GH2 in the end. The steering was weird because the previous owner had fitted the servo incorrectly and the servo saver was the wrong way round. But it works now. Took it out with my 3yo daughter for its first drive yesterday, my first drive of an RC car for about 25 years and her first drive ever.

Yeah. Didn't really need much doing to it once the steering was sorted. It had barely been used and the chassis and gearbox were perfect. It even had ball bearings in it already. My daughter has unfortunately already managed to break the shell by wedging it under a solid metal barrier, but Grasshoppers can withstand that sort of abuse without major damage. Now I have to start painting a Beetle shell for it. And sorting the suspension. And the rest.
