So im here looking for 1/10 outdoor bodies and i have a ffew questions. Is it good to use soft bodies for driving fast outdoors ex hpi, or should i only use hard bodies ex tamiya? If not, is there any way i can make the weak bodies stronger?

Also, do anyone know any good looking rc bodies for outdoor use, fitting the 257mm wheelbase of a 4tec 2.0. The cars dont need to imporve performance, just look nice.

Thanks for answers

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you plan on driving fast, you'll probably want a polycarbonate (Lexan) body. They are lighter and won't shatter into pieces the first high speed crash you have. If you have a 4tec 2.0, then I'd recommend the Traxxas Ford GT body. It's absolutely stunning and made specifically for that chassis. Otherwise, just visit some of the online sites and browse the bodies they sell and pick one to your liking. One other thing, I see you have created 6 posts that most likely could have all been contained in just one thread about bodies. Just makes things neater and easier for you and others to keep track of information.

I already own a Ford gt and mustang body (2 in fact) but I really like to paint and I don't know of many good brands.

And I am still unsure about buying from you, as I am not sure if it will protect the car.

I use shoogoo and fibreglass tape to reinforce the weak points or repair rips and it works really well. Most 8th bodies i've seen are covered with the stuff as they take a beating if (when) things don't go as planned with the higher speed and weight

When you say "hard" bodies do you mean the opaque rigid styrene based bodies like the sand scorcher etc? If so I didnt think tamiya did any touring car based shells like that (the closest I think would be the Lancia 037)

For a runner I wouldnt really want to use anything but a flexible lexan body as a the paint is on the inside and far more resistant to scuffs and knocks. Sadly they dont look as nice on the shelf as a some of the hard bodies which are sometimes closer to fine detailed scale model kits

By hard bodies I meant thicker plastic lexan ex tamiya bodies (La Ferrari, 458 etc) compared to thinner plastic from hpi. I didn't really specify that.

In my experience, you are better off going for the thicker Tamiya polycarbonate. The thinner HPI stuff tears relatively easily by comparison, and won't last as long. That said, it is still stronger than the PET or vinyl shells that cone can buy very cheaply on eBay, and takes PS paint better too.

Thanks. Btw, do you have any suggestions on which tamiya bodies that exist, that I might not have seen?

Hard to say - I don't know which ones you have seen.

When considering a new bodyshell, I like to browse the pages of hobby shops that specialise in Tamiya, such as Tamico and Time Tunnel Models. This gives a good idea of what is available.
