Just received a 1060 ESC , black edition apparently ? bought as a Quickrun , but the label states WP1060RTR ,waterproof brushed , 2-3s Lipo , 5-9 cell nimh , SBEC 6V @3A , it looks the same as the Quickrun  , not used one before , are they just plug and play ? , no instructions came with it . I know you can switch out the plugs to select F/R/Brake combos , so is that all there is to them ? . Thanks

I think they make for other brands as well.  I have one branded as "Reedy SC550."

Even the manual shows the same exact diagrams, but laid out in different ways.  Reedy instruction was a bit more cautious when it comes to the motor limits, if I remember correctly.

Got one of these too from aliexpress, while I ordered a red heatsink one.

It appears similar to the red 1060 I have, same dimensions, same connections, but the black one is marked waterproof. I believe the red one is also waterproof....

So beats me why there are 2 versions. Maybe its a new version or something? Offcourse calling it 'Black Edition' is great for marketing. ;)

Hi Ray_ve , I too ordered a red sink one and got black . The info / spec seems to be slightly better on the black one , not sure what the 'S' is on the SBEC bit . As said above and I agree they are probably made by the same company and marketed with different brands . I hope yours is running well .

cheers

SBEC is a switching BEC system.

A normal BEC is simply a low-drop linear regulator. The regulation of the voltage drop from 7.2V battery to 5V output is achieved by simply converting the unwanted escess power to heat. Simple, but not efficient in terms of power savings and excess heat.

SBEC is a modern switching regulator (like phone chargers, PC power supply). The regulation is achieved by a circuit (BUCK regulator) that switches its input ON/OFF rapidly, to maintain a steady output voltage. This switching causes very little (compared to linear) power loss as no heat is generated, making it more effecient in terms of power savings and excess heat.

I'll install mine in my Blazing star, when I stripped that down for cleaning and ball bearing conversion. Probably sometime next spring when I get around to it. Too many project, too little time.
