Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a table somewhere containing information on the wheelbases of Tamiya chassis, especially the various F/M/R touring car, rally and other chassis? I have seen different numbers bandied about for different models, but to be honest the details of the whole Tamiya 'scale on-road' series are a bit of a mystery to me, so if any database exists online it would make it much easier for me to compare and contrast.

Cheers!

Don't know of any database but it could be a good idea for owners of different chassis's to put up the wheelbase measurements.

Admittedly most info is already out there on the web , but I have a few different touring car chassis's I don't mind measuring. Most are 257mm some like the tt01 and tt02 can be both 257 and 251mm.

A lot of the later TA's are adjustable slightly because of the spacers used on the suspension arms.

I've converted a few to 251 using different suspension arms so I can fit the 251 Capri body.

Any chassis imperticualer your looking at?

Here's a list I've compiled for myself, in an effort to find alternative bodies for the Bushy D (w/ standard Blackfoot body)...

ORV (Blackfoot body) = 246 +/-
SRV (Blackfoot body) = 250 +/-
CC-01 (FreeLander) = 252 +/-
XC-01 (Pajero) = 252 +/-
TT-01 (Short) = 251 +/-

Thanks @svenb and @Frog Jumper for your help. I'm not looking at a chassis, to be honest. I was looking at some old unpainted saloon shells and wondering if I painted them up I could sell them on as potentially unusual bodies for some of the longer Tamiya on-road chassis. I think they were probably designed for 1990s 1:10 buggy chassis and 1:10 electric on-road racers, so I feared they may be a bit long, but it might be that they'd fit one of the longer examples as they have wheelbases of between 26.5 and 27.5cm and you can cut your own rear arches, so a cm here or there could easily be made up. I reckon they might also be a bit wide, though, as if they are built to fit buggies they will be way over scale.

Maybe the Group C chassis sized bodies are closest, my Jaguar xjr12 is 280mm

Could be. Either that or they are bodies intended for flat-pan, on-road cars. On some of them the potential clearance over the front suspension looks too limited to be intended to be for a buggy.

Right. Just bought a Parma 1989 Chrysler Le Baron and what seems to be an early 90s Parma Porsche 911 Carrera. No idea what I will do with them, to be honest. I don't think I have a car which will fit either.

The Le Baron is 22.5cm across and has a wheelbase of approx 27cm. The Porsche is 19cm across and has a wheelbase of approx 26.5cm. Wheelbases on both are rough approximations as they do not have marked cutlines there to allow fitting to cars of slightly different lengths.

The Porsche is probably the easier shell to deal with.  A 19 cm, or 190 mm, width points to a touring car chassis.  Since the wheelbase is a little longer than the typical 257 mm I know the later TA and TB chassis have adjustable wheelbases via the spacers used on the suspension hinge pins.  You should be able to get 260 mm, maybe 261 mm, by changing those spacers.  The TT chassis have fairly specific wheelbases at 251 and 257 mm, unless you start modifying parts.

The Le Baron is a bit of a puzzle.  At 270 mm I would normally think of Group C and F1 chassis for their wheelbases, but a 225 mm width points to something else.  1/10 pan cars are roughly 200 mm width; Pro10 pan cars are 235 mm width; modern buggies are about 250 mm width; modern stadium trucks and short course trucks are about 290-300 mm width.

Parma is still in business; you can find them by searching for Parma PSE.  Maybe send them an email and ask what chassis the Le Baron shell was originally designed for.

It is odd. You have to take into account that the Le Baron is not a modern shell, though. It is an NOS shell I picked up from eBay which dates back to the early 90s, so it may be intended for a class or car which we no longer recognise or a class which only operated in the US, such as oval racing.. Although I have not received it yet, from the pictures I would speculate that it is intended for some kind of circuit car, as the clearance under the bonnet isn't great enough to clear the shock towers on a typical buggy. Although I won't be able to confirm that until it actually arrives.

If you're interested in looking for yourself, the seller has more shells for sale, including a Buick I also had my eye on and which has similar proportions to the Chrysler.

Link to auction here.

Also Speedy, wasn't it you who was building the lovely red Stratos? It seems Parma used to make a 1:12 version of the Stratos Turbo Group 5 circuit car.

There is one listed on eBay here.

What about DF01/TA01/TA02? They can be built to different widths and wheelbases using different combinations of chassis and arms. For example Cayenne DF01 is 200mm width and 280mm wheelbase

There’s another Tamiya based website online that lists all the specs of around 250 models, Google ‘Tamiya TA wheelbase’ & it’ll probably be your first option on the results.
