Hi all i have a cc01 freelander  and would like to make it more of a trail/crawler to go in my local woods (Cannock chase or Hopewas woods Tamworth) What would be a decent set of wheels and tyres .what size motor and pinion and suspension. Any help would be gratefully appreciated

I don't actually own a CC01 yet, but I did win one on Ebay last night.  I have the same plans that you do.  From what I've read and observed I'm going with the following; 16t pinion, 65t motor, 1080 Esc, RC4WD 1.55 beadlock wheels and tires, locked front and rear diffs, rear 4-link kit, and center skid plate.  I'll also cut the "brick" off the front of the chassis and modify the steering as needed.  That will be my starting point and then I'll upgrade after I exploit any other weaknesses out on the trails.

I haven't been able to add to my thread for an age because I'm still waiting on some backorder parts.  I made the front skid plate for Homebrew but haven't got the aftermarket skidplate for Hopup yet.

Anyway, @87lc2 has the right idea, I think.

There's a lot you can do with the CC01 and you can do it in stages.

1.55 wheels are good as they look nice under smaller bodies and there are some good tyre compounds at crawler specialists.  I'm still using fairly cheap rubber on mine so can't advise the best tyre.  A dedicated crawling group might point you to the best tyre.

The CC01 is geared somewhere between crawling and bashing, so the smallest pinion is best if you want more torque and less speed, especially if you intend to fit taller tyres.  I think there is a planetary reduction gearbox that attaches to the front of the motor which fits the CC01, if you need less speed.  A 55T motor will improve torque and reduce top speed.

After that, it depends if you want to hack it up yourself or buy hop-ups.  Cutting the brick gives improved ground clearance but you'll need to make a skid plate.  4-linked rear improves articulation and suspension performance.  A centre skid plate will hide the exposed screws or you can consider moving them inboard.

Have fun - CC01s are great :D
