Two quick questions,

1. because I have no more room for any more cars, which means today I'll be buying a new Wild Willy 2 from the local hobby store (It'll also be part of my comp entry, so there is some justification there in getting another car  plus I got some cash for Christmas and what better way to support the LHS :D).

Is it worth painting in the recommended TS-28. I even have spare lacquer to protect the paint job. I'll probably never or rarely drive this one though, thoughts please.

2. I managed to get a used but pretty much complete 58182 TA03F Audi A4 STW in reasonable condition. The only real issue is that it's been painted black I and I want to do box art. After much thinking I have decided to just paint the outside and then matt lacquer it (there is a chance I will try and drive it now and then). My question for this, should I go:

paint - lacquer - stickers OR

paint -stickers - lacquer?  to protect the stickers, or will the lacquer mess up the stickers?

pics of the car because every post should have at least one pic.

I totally agree that every post should have a photo!

1.  I painted WW2.  It's a jeep.  If it were to have a Lexan-shine, it would be totally strange.  So, for a hard body, matt paint looks less plastic.  I like it that way.  But the plastic isn't really shiny either, so not painting it would be fine too.  In the end, they both have a similar sheen to them.

Here is a photo of unpainted Wild Willy 1 on the foreground.  TS28 would be similar to this unpainted plastic in color.  WW2 that was painted on the far side (I forgot which color I used, obviously, it's a different color.)

2.  I am not a fan of outside paint.  Matt color looks as if the shell is made out of cardboard.

Here is a silver color painted on the outside.  To me, it looks too papery and toy-like.  I have this old notion that cars should be all shiny... But beauty is in the eye of beholder.  I don't blame you if you find this matt silver exciting (but I'm not going to use this shell).  At least, this photo should give you some idea as to what it looks like.  (For what it's worth, your black Audi looks fantastic to me.)

Thanks for the comparison, I'll think I'll paint and give it a matt finish.

yeah, gloss would be better, I wonder if anyone makes a gloss PC paint, Tamiya don't seem too.

Thanks for that pic, I was worried about the look and now I am doubting it. I do have one card up my sleeve, I have an old HPI Audi body I can try painting the outside.

I do like the black too, but have heart set on box art. Pity the shells are hard to get, the I'd do both.

I think you should paint as well. Without paint, it looks very cheap and toyish if that makes sense (it IS a toy lol). I painted mine in a different color.

You have to decide if and how much you’re going to play with your Willy

If you plan to put your Willy on a shelf, You should definitely paint it. Just as Thiebault said, it will look like a toy if you don’t.  Painting it will look best.

You say you’re not going to play with your Willy much but once you do you’ll find out how much fun it is and its going to get beat hard. The WW2 is one of my favorite beaters

I’ve just further confused you and you’re welcome.

thanks everyone for your input :D

Painting underway and I'll post results in the next couple of days. I hadn't planned on start this yet, having other projects planned over the Christmas break. But until I can get my garage clean, I can start them, so I'll sneak this one in, it should be a quick build ^_^

done!

I'm glad I painted it, and the chassis, with clear coat, definitely worth the effort I think.

this is the chassis.

I managed to get glue on one of the headlights. There are a few minor things to do, so I'll fix that up shortly.
