Seems to me as of lately there is a huge abundance of New Built / NIB Lunchbox's and Grasshopper's for sale recently weather it be here on Tamiya Club or on E-Bay. Is now the best time to dump them for the best money before the new re-released kits come out? It looks like the new released kits are the same as the vintage kits, but seems to me there are a lot more coming up for sale then usual.

So are YOU guys keeping or selling your vintage LB's and GH's???

Jay, did you notice the same program just before the re-release hornet came out? Well my guess is a lot of people know the gh/lb are coming soon and trying to cash in while they still can. I would rather have the original gh/lb kits and to me they will always have an edge price wise over the re-release cars. The new hornet is very nice, but its just differant enough to be less interesting. I'm sure the new gh/lb kits will also very slightly from the early/original kits.I guess its what makes you the happiest and brings you the greatest pleasure. I am going to but the re-re kits just for fun and for the shear pleasure of the build. Merv

I don't know why everyone dumps there kits before the re-releases..... keep in mind due to the wonderful world of copyrights/trademarks, we will never see the decals the same as they were back in the day. I don't care for these made up sponsorships, takes away from the Tamiya realism..... They should hold there value.

You guys are thinking just like I am.. I would never get rid of any of the originals I have as I think the small things that are different with the new re-releases kits turns me off.. Electronic speed controls, new "fake" sponsor stickers, and even the "NO MORE BLISTER PARTS" makes me admire the old vintage kits so much more. I like to see it Old School.[8D]

I sold my Lunchbox a few weeks ago. I asked $90BIN and sold it within hours. It wasn't perfect, and knowing the re-release is around the corner and mine would have taken too long to restore so I sold it off. I still have another mint bodyset that I paid loads for along with a NIB decalset that I also paid loads for, but I'll hang on to those since they're "old". None of the decals on the LB are licensed so I believe the re-release is the exact same right? Honestly I didn't feel bad about it, someone was very happy to get my old LB and I'll get another.

Anyone notice the smattering of BRUISERS on ebay lately? Hmm...

Jay I couldn't agree more. Its one thing to open an original kit and build it-its another to open a re-release and build it. Its always a bunch of fun no matter what you build-but there is something almost sacred about a vintage kit. When I built a bunch of new hornets there just wasn't the same feeling knowing it wasn't something old, plus no mechanical speed control makes it a little "hoky". Fun but not the same.

Now for sure its not the best time anymore, its already too late, prices have already dropped, of course they will drop even more in the next months. Why would you anyway sell them? You would propably never get the money you paid for them back and you say you like the old shrink wrapped kits, the new ones won't have that vintage and rare touch for you...

If you bought to make money then I think you have missed the boat already. I got mine because I love it, the release doesn't change that one bit, so I'll be keeping and building at some point. If you bought for a price you were happy with who cares what the selling price is?

I totally agree with you.. If I had to choose between the two and have to pay $100 for the re-release or $400 for the vintage original NIB LB or GH I'd still choose the original even for that much more money.

Although I know a lot of people don't feel that way. "Hint", so many for sale.

I just see the re-releases as an opportunity to obtain parts to complete old restore projects. I'd rather take something that is in sad shape and make it "new" than just get a new kit that resembles the "old."

For instance, I am in the process of restoring an old Grasshopper and a Hornet, and the re-releases just amke it more economical for me... [;)]

good point to the true enthusist who loves what they have a re-release or original does not matter price wise or not price as long as you can enjoy what you have and not look at as a money value to be gained.

I have the Grasshopper 1, Hornet and Lunchbox in original form. Now I see that my LM Jaguar is coming out as a re-release. I love these cars and I have two ways of looking at things:

1. Loads of new parts to make my restorations mint

2. Loads more kids have the chance to buy something other than an Impreza!

The more the better, I can't wait to get some grasshopper rear tyres for my Sand Scorcher!!

i loved my lunchbox and grasshopper even though they were just runners because i could'nt aford mint ones but the reissue's made it possible for me to trade them and get another car that i wanted knowing that i can buy the reissue's for a realistic price and they will be alot better condition than the ones i had so i dont think alot of people are dumping them for the profit just that they know if they buy a reissue there's no more searching for parts that cost a fortune so why keep a non-perfect one when you can go out and buy a nib reissue
