Great, now I need to find a Kyosho 300zx for sale haha <3
I'm also starting to get an itch for an group A R32 skyline and a 1995 Toms Supra which is HELLA expensive :(

Also couldn't help notice you have a sanwa m-zechs like mine, except the slightly newer version. Have you ever had any issues with that radio? my steering endpoints are out of wack i.e. lock to lock is supposed to be a bit over 90 degrees, but mine is only like 45 degrees so had to add mechanical stops to give me feedback when I'm at 100% Makes it abit touchy so can be addressed with dual rate settings.

In the mean time, here is my current TRF414 build but with modern SSL servo and full telemetry <3 Fun fact: batteries are held down with a heavy duty hose clamp! haha

I drooled over this kit when I first saw it in 1995. Fast forward a decade later, I had a RS4 Pro4. Fantastic kit. I missed it.

Love the cars, in the 90s a buddy I mostly drove on-road nitro.

The first was a Kyosho Corvette ZR-1. Rear wheel drive. Not very fast with it's 1.5cc engine, but all that changed with an OS-Max 2.11cc CV-something  CZRengine. It would howl like a wolf! ^_^

After that came the 4WD Mugen Seiki Prime 12 chassis, 2.5cc and for some time the 2-speed box, with various HPI bodys on it like the Viper, McLaren F1, and last in line the Lamborgini:

MyKpv9p.jpg

Doing the Calvind and Hobbs images took some time in painting to allow for drying-time, but were easy to do. It is still my personal favourite.
And the car is still in line to drive again, after a stripdown, clean, and conversion to brushless. I still have a new Lamborgini Calvin and Hobbs ready-painted body, it only needs the finish overall color, which will probably be yellow again.

This chassis reminds me that I also had a HPI mini-RS4 chassis. Great runner, but could not use it indoors because of all the rubber stripes it would leave on the livingroom floor. ^_^ It had a Mini Cooper body, yellow with black bonnet. Sold it a few years ago...

I had one of these! What model is it? I had it for about a year then sold it to fund a Kyosho Mantis EP to race. The Skyline was actually the first car I raced,  I took it along and entered the open class a few times then decided to give it a go properly. The Mantis was the entry class. I still have it, will post pics in a week or so when I'm back home.

I didn't have any problems with the M-Zechs whatsoever.

Did you set mechanical endstops on the transmitter?

What i remember is that the M-Zechs has some "manual" sub trim, i.e. you adjusted the trims so that the car was running straight, then turned TX and RX off. While the TX beeing off one could bring the trim back to the middle. When turning the TX on again the car is still running straight and you got the full adjustment range again for the trim, i.e. the TX saved the previously set trim as sub trim.

Corally C4, interesting car. Suspension arms from a serpent nitro car, the impulse if i remember correctly. Steel parts from Hudy and the dampers are the same as on the Xray T1.

This thread inspired me to explore the dusty realms of my loft to dig out my old kyosho mantis GP that i think i bought around 1996.

Its from the 90s and its a touring car!!!!

And its absolutely minging - i obviously didnt clean it before condemning it to the loft as the whole thing is covered in oily gritty slime. Nitro fuel is disgusting stuff.

Might strip it down this weekend and clean it up being as its been in the loft for about 15 years.

You should restore it, those Volvos are, whether Tamiya or Kyosho, pretty rare.  I missed to buy one when they were available in the shops.

In the 90s there was a hype for 1/10 scale nitro touring cars, every manufacturer seemed to release one or modified an existing chassis.

Tamiya TG10, originally with CLK sportswear body, but the Subaru fitted like a glove and I could fit a massive and functional exhaust pipe.....:D

Its funny you should say that - its now sitting in the kitchen in a million tiny bits soaking in pots of wd-40 with some new ball bearings on the way. I couldnt resist once the tip of a screw driver touched it.

The body is in a bit of state and needs some repairs - the decals havent faired too well either after 20 years (had no idea it was rare) I imagine exposure to glow fuel doesnt do them any favours.

Where did the exhaust hose on the subaru come from? Thats what mine needs - the original was never long enough and always covered the chassis, back wheels and inside of the shell with fuel oil.

Here is how i did that exhaust pipe. The silicone pipe from silencer to the hole in the rear bumper is stock TG10, i.e. the TG10 already guides the hot gases behind the rear wheels. That does not help with power but does help keeping the car clean of oil and grime. I added a short piece of 12x1mm aluminium tube that I bought in a hardware store more than 20 years ago. I even found that tube today in my workshop..:D....and have drawn lines on it to show how it was cut, then i heated it up and bent it into the final shape, two holes drilled in the tube and the bumper and then mounted with some heat resistant glue for sealing.

now it looks like the exhausts of those 1:1 Subarus, where you have to chase the cats out in the morning before you start the engine...<_<

If we're doing dusty old touring chassis here's my Corally C4 with the optional carbon staggered chassis. Still works perfectly even if the Hpi 911 body is a little dirty! I'll dig out my FF-01 Cavalier for a pic..

Wow. I absolutely love this. Was this shell released with the car or was it an after-market replacement for something else? My Dad owned a Kadett Coupe almost identical in colour to this when I was a kid, so I know the real thing well. If I bought one I'd be tempted to try and make the body sit a bit lower on the chassis, as the sill line seems very high and the lower half seems very 'thick', but that's purely down to the way it's moulded. Really cute, though.

Actually, looking at a picture of a car probably the same colour as my Dad's was (although his was an RHD UK-market model – an odd beast, actually, since most GM cars in the UK were branded as Vauxhalls and the Kadett series was branded as the Chevette), the proportions aren't all that far off. The real car is longer and lower, but the out-of-scale wheels are always going to mess the scaling up on a 1:10 car. The uncut body mounting posts probably confuse the proportions, too. Lovely car, though, @a.w.k.. I might have to look out for one.

Here is another one of my old HPIs in dire need of restoration. This is my original Nitro RS4 Racer. It has all the hop ups HPI had out for it at the time. It's powered by an OS .12 CV engine. As you can see, the last time it was driven, it was in a crash. I am in need of the 2 spurs for the 2 speed and a front bumper. Everything else is in great (albeit very dirty) shape. This car means a lot as the engine on this chassis is probably one of the last few engines Ron Paris worked on (I had an older engine on this chassis that was replaced by this in the summer of 2001). I sent this engine to him and he did his magic. A couple days after receiving it, I learned he had past away that first week of Oct in 2001. If I ever find the parts, this car will get a full restore. Until then, I still have my fond memories of running this great car.

The proportions are a little bit off because

a) I mounted a m-chassis-body (240mm WB) onto a TA-03 SWB chassis (239mm WB, #58215 PIAA Porsche), WB is ok but TA-03 is to wide, so the fenders couldn't overlap the wheels. The wheel arches sit above the wheels, hence it looks higher.
b) I did cut the body not on the suggested lines that were moulded into the body but lower to make up for the additional height.
c) You are right about the body posts

The body was made by CARSON #13276 :

https://www.hobbydirekt.de/Alte-Kategorien/sonstiges/KAR-OPEL-KADETT-C-COUPE-Carson-13276::61086.html?language=en&MODsid=82a3e87ed7b1ad7bcb18056e70921482

The body is cut out on the proposed lines and sits on a m-chassis without bodyposts.

The selection of wheel and rubber for this build are a cross breed of Hpi and Kyosho.  The rear wheels are made by Kyosho Super-Ten FW03 BBS Super wide wrapped in RJ Ride G30 race slicks.  The fronts are Hpi vintage super dish silver wheels widened with hpi slick M compound.  The combination of the two work well together and achieved the vintage race look I was going for.

I believe the Vauxhall Chevette branding didn't start until something like one or two years into the T-car/Opel Kadett model run. Maybe this was an early example, which would make it a 1973 or 1974, I think. I know nowhere near enough about these cars to tell from the picture if that's actually true.

My Dad's car was a Kadett Coupe with the post-77 facelift grille, almost identical to the one in the picture I posted above. I think it was a T-reg plate car, which would have made it a 1978 model.

As far as I am aware, there was never a Chevette equivalent of the coupe, which may be why GM continued to import the coupe version of the Kadett alongside it. According to Wikipedia, "The two-door coupé version of the Kadett C was the only version of the Opel car not to have a Chevette equivalent."

It was a lovely little car, actually. Stylish, roomy and comfy, although it only had a 1200cc engine and no cassette player.
