Classic touring cars 90s era

Recommended Posts

The TL-01 also qualifies as 90s touring chassis, afaik it was run together with the FF-01 in the Tamiya Cup as beginner class and i think its a perfect beginners car, easy to build, maintain and to set up.

Oh man this thread is up my alley. I'm a group A touring car nut, as I crew on a mate's group A Starion in Heritage Touring Cars here in Australia, he's restoring a group A RS500 at the moment too. I also own a group A Isuzu Gemini, which is the aussie version of the Opel Kadett C. I have 2 of those M chassis Carson Kadett shells, and a 1:1 Gemini coupe. Racers Paradise in Germany has done a very good 1:10 touring car version of the Kadett C coupe.

I'll post some pics of my group A Tamiya soon, I have 2x R32 GTR Calsonic skylines (both liveries), a Auto Tech M3 (a mate owns the actual real car), the Taisan R32 GTR (just bought it from Japan), can't wait for the rere HKS GTR kit.

I also have my original Taisan Porsche, 95 Castrol Supra and Clarion R33 GTR LM.

Most of my cars are TA02 derivatives, the Taisan is on a HPI longitudinal battery chassis kit.

Oh and I forgot, I have a Lancer Evo obsession so I have a ABC Evo 3, Tamiya Evo 4, 5 6 and 7 aswell haha.

My FF-01 Cavalier, wished I known all about the wet placement of stickers when I did this! Still turned out pretty well plus being a runner it's going to get bashed, much like that era's full scale racers!

I do also like these 2-litre touring cars, this is pretty close racing with paint exchange and body contact......:D

Is that another TRF414 like mine?
So glad I started this thread. Best life decision of 2019 so far :)

No, its a completely hopped up TA04.

TRF spec and more! I wanted the carbon chassis rather than the SSG because of the body mounting option with the carbon parts.

Are any touring car chassis allowed?

I have 23 chassis all on road but the only 90's are a TL01LA, TA02, TA03R TRF and a couple of Group C's

I guess I have a love for very early 2000s era as well. I spent many hours browsing the Tamiya RC guide book 2004.

The mondeo above looks really nice, I always wanted that model as a kid as I was big into 90's BTCC but I never got one.... I loved the Calsonic Nissan Primera body set as well but those are quite rare.

Sorry for the poor quality pictures but here's my slightly different JTCC HKS Cavelier ('Vectra') I painted last year. Sat on a second hand FF01 chassis I rebuilt with some nicer parts. I think brushless is perhaps a bit OTT for the FF01 but its fun and it looks cool....

That Ultima based rear motor looks amazing! How is it converted from the buggy? Short arms? Is it 257mm wheelbase? I am so into that. Never seen one before.

This is basically an Ultima buggy with buggy wheel suspension, wheelbase 273mm, width 244mm and touring car body mounts. At the beginning of the 90's there were only the wide touring cars, i.e. modified buggies, later came the narrow scale touring cars, the first were e.g. tamiya ta-01 and Yokomo YR4. The car first appeared in the 1990 Kyosho catalog. The first cars had an aluminum chassis, later cars had the so-called Kelron chassis.

Here is my Peugeot 406 STW (the german BTCC) 1997, driver Jorg van Ommen car #9. I visited a race and brought the car with me to have it signed by the driver,  he did so and I had a little chat with him, pretty nice guy. I remember that i painted the car the day before the race......bought the body two days before the race....:Dand i put it on a FF-01 because the original has FWD....

And this is my Mondeo, mounted on a TA-01. The body is not Tamiya, it consists of 4 parts, main body, bumpers f+r and wing. I don't know anymore what manufacturer it was maybe someone on here has a clue?

I had an RS4, with the 2 speed trans even. Regret trading it for either a Yokomo or a TC3, can't recall which. I actually forgot I had those two until I saw your post. Was the rally cockpit set an HPI part?

Love the cars, in the 90s a buddy I mostly drove on-road nitro.

The first was a Kyosho Corvette ZR-1. Rear wheel drive. Not very fast with it's 1.5cc engine, but all that changed with an OS-Max 2.11cc CV-something  CZRengine. It would howl like a wolf! ^_^

After that came the 4WD Mugen Seiki Prime 12 chassis, 2.5cc and for some time the 2-speed box, with various HPI bodys on it like the Viper, McLaren F1, and last in line the Lamborgini:

MyKpv9p.jpg

bC14s3q.jpg

Doing the Calvind and Hobbs images took some time in painting to allow for drying-time, but were easy to do. It is still my personal favourite.
And the car is still in line to drive again, after a stripdown, clean, and conversion to brushless. I still have a new Lamborgini Calvin and Hobbs ready-painted body, it only needs the finish overall color, which will probably be yellow again.

I grew up drawing Calvin and Hobbs, this car makes me smile :D Did you hand paint the characters on first from then inside and then spray the yellow? Came out amazing!

Thanks!

Yes these are hand-painted from the inside, it is actually quite simple!

Take the picture you want, and print it in reverse image on paper with the required picture size.
Stick the paper on the outside of the polycarb body.
With a fine pencil, trace the black lines of the picture inside the body, and allow to dry completely.
Then, paint the colors in the corresponding areas inside the black lines. You can move onto a black line with the paint no problem, just do not go over the black line if antoher color is next to it. Allow to dry between colors.
And presto, on the inside the figures look a bit strange and messy with all the colors on the black lines, but on the outside they come out perfect. An advantage of the polycarb body.

For finish, spray the rest of the body in the desired color, you can paint over the pictures too is long as the paints are compatible.
