Hello all. Just wondering what you all do with your boxes. I have a collection of 30 something cars. I have boxes for about 15 of them. The boxes just take up space and i have no interest in them. Selling is difficult due to the size and I can't bring myself to bin them.

I have / had the same.  Some boxes are great for storing built cars in - modern Tamiya boxes are often just the right size for the finished model.  But they're not too strong and enough cars stacked up will crush them.

I have a friend who collects boxes, so I give mine away to him.  If he doesn't want them, I bin them.  If it's a rare vintage box I might put it up for trade or free to collector but TBH the last batch of vintage boxes I gave to me friend for safe keeping because he likes to have them.

Another option is to cut off the box top and put it up as a poster in your hobby room.  I used to do this.  My current hobby room doesn't have enough wall space so I have a stack of old boxart sitting around doing nothing.

I must be one of those people that like having the boxes (I’ve even gone out of my way to buy others as well) as I use them to store various parts in rather than have lots of plastic storage containers. Just a personal preference for me but I prefer looking at the artwork on them 😊

I store project-related materials in each box; specific spare parts, hopup placards, manuals, electronics boxes, extra wheels, etc.  Many of the boxes fit under a bed, so they're mostly out of sight.

Depending on the box art, I cut away the front of the box to keep and then recycle the rest.  I haven't done it yet, but was looking to put them up in my garage for some art.

I keep parts etc in clear white plastic storage boxes so I can see what's in them, otherwise I forget

All depends how sad you are! In the case of myself, very! I have plans to get them up my workshop. I have Blitzer Beetle and Bear Hawk boxes ready for the same treatment. Hope they re release the falcon so I don't have to mess about too much for a box!

I have a large collection of boxes - vintage and newer types . I keep them in plastic bags / or other boxes in my loft . I have a Rough Rider box that I keep all of my decals in and Clod bodyset boxes that I keep ORV frames in and other boxes that I keep spare parts in - life wouldn't be same without them ;)

Oh, boxes. Sometimes I think I'd sell the cars before I part with my boxes... Must be a childhood thing from staring at those then-unaffordable brand-new kits in hobby stores. Makes me happy just to look at them.

The box is something to get the kit delivered in and then it’s use is over.

I lob mine in the attic in case I sell the car and then forget they are there and then bin them in a yearly cull.

I am not greatly sentimental about plastic or cardboard. I like to build, break then repair.

Absolutely agree. The image of a Lunch Box...er box...is etched into my minds eye. Still makes me feel warm and fuzzy every time I see that stunning art work.

Since it seems to be mention-the-Hornet-Supreme-week, let me add this: I really didn't like the Hornet Supreme when it came out, but today I saw the box instead of the built car over on that Supreme thread, and suddenly, it made sense to me.. . The power of box art, not to be underestimated.

The first memory of a Tamiya kit box was one I saw in a neighbours garage,  who at the time built models for display in a LHS . It was a vintage Mudblaster - now I have one :)

Most of my boxes I ditch, only ones I keep are the ones I’m nostalgic about. Having over 50 vehicles (about 40 built, 30 running) I just don’t have the space sadly. Seeing other people’s nib piles makes me happy though!

Hilarious timing on this thread :) I was literally about to post the same question this morning... having a row with the missus last few days as I’m running out of spaces and excuses for where all these cars (and their boxes) have been coming from....!

I feel like I could possibly let go the ‘modern’ Tamiya boxes (standard generic blue and black smallish box with a sticker applied) whereas the ‘classic’ boxes (white, big box with awesome artwork) I’d rather gnaw my own arm off than let go...

i need to find space.... if only to hide the obsession / addiction.... ...but I don’t want to release a box or boxes....

Does TamiyaClub have a counsellor? I think it needs a counsellor....
