For me the box art is a massive part of the attraction for Tamiya products. Having only just returned to the world of Tamiya I have big plans to keep the box for each build and frame them.

I have no doubt that the classic boxes are a piece of art history for that mid 80's RC car and BMX bike era. And personally those kitsets and especially the display box is as powerful a memory from that time as any childhood photograph.

I must admit, initially I didn't really give any thought to boxes, but now I find I want to keep them. Like others, that's creating space issues (and thus wife issues ), so I think went it gets to breaking point I'll start cutting up some to mount as wall art. That seems the best way to still be able to appreciate them without huge storage problems.

Might be worth looking to see if some kit boxes can be stored inside other larger kit boxes = 2 for 1 spacewise . I have a Willys Wheeler kit box that has had the staples removed and it is stored flat and inside a card sleeve :)

This is my number one issue at the moment for me🤔 I love the art work on the tamiya (white) boxes and I can totally understand the members that frame them and like them more than the kit inside etc but I've not long moved to a smaller house (children not children anymore and moved on🤗) so me and the wife decided to downsize but unwittingly forgot that these boxes don't half take up room I don't have anymore, so it's made me very hesitant on buying new kits and as much as I love them I just can't justify the space they take up☹! But I've just received a bit of a fix and I highly recommend it!........all the old kit and detailed breakdown of the model what a beautiful book with stunning pictures👍👍

I simply don't have the room for them.
Recently I cut the top off my Frog, Fox and Wild One boxes. I'll do something with those one day.
My brother kept the box from our Monster Beetle for a while, then eventually cut the top off it and kept it as well.

Best boxart ever.

Thats not a bad idea. Currently all my boxes have something in them, but they could be re-orgnised. I could also do what I have done with my sons LEGO boxes and flat pack them. His LEGO collection is also getting out of hand with somewhere near 150 sets or more .

Currently I got 1 box & the model and all the related bits are in it, in a cupboard. I really like the art but don’t want it framed on a wall. Plan on keeping the box but not on show. I have the same problem with cigar boxes, beautiful artwork, too good to chuck but don’t want them on display either.

Hilarious timing on this thread :) I was literally about to post the same question this morning... having a row with the missus last few days as I’m running out of spaces and excuses for where all these cars (and their boxes) have been coming from....!

I feel like I could possibly let go the ‘modern’ Tamiya boxes (standard generic blue and black smallish box with a sticker applied) whereas the ‘classic’ boxes (white, big box with awesome artwork) I’d rather gnaw my own arm off than let go...

i need to find space.... if only to hide the obsession / addiction.... ...but I don’t want to release a box or boxes....

Does TamiyaClub have a counsellor? I think it needs a counsellor....

The only advice the TC Councilor will give you is to buy a bigger house. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I never ever thought of framing the box tops before, but I really like that idea. I still have some orignal boxes from the 80s, with their respective cars long gone... I think I'll frame those.
