Ok so foolishly I put a 9t brushless motor in my Tl01. It’s very very fast but I’m not getting the grip i need. What’s the best tyres for tarmac ? I had sorex 28r tyres on it and it was like driving on ice. No grip.  The Tamiya radial tyres were slightly better . Any suggestions? Thanks

Tamiya 53433 type A medium narrow, sounds like your ground isn’t hot enough for the sorex 28. Keep in mind softer tires won’t last as long, especially if the ground gets too hot for them.

The best grip is provided by your throttle finger. ;) Try turning your punch down on the ESC. Also, helps if you don't overpower a car (nothing wrong with silly overpowered RCs, you just can't then complain about lack of grip).

Yep, with a 9t motor, sticking to the ground will be hard.

With massive power, all the Fast and Furious cars spin their wheels.  Looks good on the screen, not so good for traction.  (RIP Paul Walker...)

Ha ha I’m not complaining just a handful to keep in straight line. Would slicks tyres grip better than radials?

Theoretically slicks will have more grip as there is physically more rubber on the ground, this is assuming the surface is not dusty etc. Having the right rubber in the first place makes the biggest difference.

Before buying tons of different tires try and see if anything else is amiss. I run lots of 9t and even 5.5t in tamiya touring cars and apart from wheelSpin on exiting a corner I have no trouble. First check the punch settings. Then see if you re not getting torque steer (power on the wheels making the steering or the whole car steer by itself). Then check for slop in your steering any sloop will be accentuated at higher speeds making the car twitchy and unstable down the straights. Cheek all your wheel bearings are ok. A seized bearing will make the car steer.

I run team sorex slicks on all my touring cars and they are very grippy on tarmac.

Hope this helps

Might be torque steer I think. I start off gentle. Get up to good speed then boot it and it goes off course ....

I feel for you, sounds just like my M03 with 3930kv and 2s brushless, it's not overly powerful only about 30MPH ( ok scale speed is overpowered!) but yeah it's annoying to say the least... makes hitting a ramp hard as it just darts of to either side under power and there's no time for corrections.

FWIW my F103GT ( with TC wheels) has what I consider to be quite useless grip on the stock Tamiya street tyres it came with,  on a silver can it would spin out on car parks too easily... it might be the low chassis without F1 tyres etc but I've bought some HPI X Pattern tyres as they supposedly offer more grip... ( they do feel sticker in hand) I'm hoping they might be similar to how the S Type tyres for the M Chassis cars work but obviously my M03 is just jittery and I doubt that's due to lack of grip and it traction rolls on carpet at low speed

You got a video of it darting off?

I thinkthe biggest problem in traction is where you drive!

so any carpark etc... is full of dust and unprepared. Find yourself a playground with green gum paint or a painted tennis court....

we have such a green asphalt playround. lets says I get with slicks about 10-15 runs on car parks and on the green asphalt track only 2 runs.

as I said threaded tires work great in such bad areas, from the link above I posted and its not a shame to run them for that price.

Try a gyro (as mentioned) and touring car body shell with a downforce wing.

A home made wing on my FF03 cured the lift over steer at speed.

Has anyone even seen/used silicone RC tyres? I've read that Silicone is used heavily in slot cars for optimum grip, but only on clean surfaces. I would guess that a low Shore silicone tyre would give some serious grip, but would wear relatively quickly. A lower Shore Urethane would do the same too I guess.

RCers racing indoors on floorboards with foam tyres used to "stipple" their tyres with silicone sealant. True your tyre to required diameter then spread silicone sealant and roll it against the other tyre to spread it full width & as thin as possible.

Only lasted a race or 2 though :)
