I personally haven't noticed this type of scam originating from this forum... perhaps because this place is such a small community, most everyone can quickly identify bad actors?

Anecdotally, I've used PayPal "gift" payments as both a seller and buyer through this site, and have had exactly zero problems. But then of course, I'm using the free service as it was intended to be: for friends and family B)

I would feel terrible if I took someone's money and didn't send the goods, I couldn't do it. :(

Did you get protection evssv69?

There was someone else who got scammed on here recently, paid for 2 cars and never received them. :(

Totally agree with OCD and Wolfdog - people on here are brilliant, long-time members can be trusted, as can many newer members when you see their posts.

I’ve bought plenty on here using this method and never had an issue, likewise i’ve sold a few things and never had an issue. If i ever posted something that someone didn’t recieve i would 100% refund them and chade the PO / courier. Leaving someone out of pocket like that just wouldn’t sit right with me.

totlally agree....but still.....there's scammers out there none the less...regardless if u`ve never had any probs on here........others have...and will in the future......no doubt..:(....ultimately its down to the individual as to how he pays but still...I thk it should not b openly accepted/asked for in a sales thread.......if u wanna suggest gift in a pm...then that's ur choice....;).....I was on msuk for well over 8 years...daily....and I had a very very good rep for my selling on there....and yes in pm I did offer either payment as  I was a trusted member.....but 97% of peeps paid the fees.......fine  by me......and yes ..I`d never scam any one.....period......I sold a revo3.3...and he had engine issues a few wks later.....I sent him 5x engines.....lucky a mate had loads spare...and eventually hew did get 1x decent engine out of it......but...we got there in the end.....I could of said...``worked when It left here mate...ur prob now....``....but that aint  how I`d like to b treated.......

Well, maybe I'm unclear what you're warning us of then? I'm aware that there's been some scams perpetrated on this site in the past, but not as a result of PayPal gift payments. I believe that's why you don't see any warning about such -- because it hasn't been an issue here  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I`m saying I`m surprised its ok to ask for payment by gift..when it can go so wrong.....nothing n more nothing less.....most other forum I`m on/been on  r  totally against asking for gift payment....and clearly state this at top of sale sections....but then again...do people follow rules.......nope...

I don't see how it's any riskier than any other transaction with a complete stranger. As you you've said yourself, the choice is yours... Truth be told, I'd rather have option than not. I just can't see how banning people over the practice would be justified by the relatively rare instances of this scam.

ok..warning not ban........what ever....it worked on ms.............really.?!?...u cant see the risk paying gift......rather then goods ect....if I`d of paid for my vorza `gift`......then would paypal refund me????.......absolute not...........goods n services......yes...I stand  a 99% chance of getting my 230 quid  bak now...........so how  can u say there's no  risk paying gift....

Because I'm not making that assertion. I'm saying that there's no additional risk in allowing it to be requested by the seller, as the choice is up to the buyer to decide for themselves, as is the case now. And we aren't seeing any scams of this nature. Are you saying we should be more worried about this then?

I will always ask for gift if a buyer wants to pay with PayPal. It is for their convenience because they can always come and pay with cash if they want.

I list things at a fair price (I hope) but need to receive that amount, not 90% of it.

I usually offer bank transfer as an option so no one pays fees but there is no protection with that as well.

This forum seems to be well policed and very honest is general. I have dealt with lots of great people

It's already in Paypal's own safety guidelines not to use 'F&F/Gift' to pay for goods - If people don't read the safety suggestions set out by the company handling their cash then there's little chance of them reading any extra suggestions here.

There's even a choice when making the payment

One's specifically for sending to 'Friends and Family' - If the person you're buying from isn't a friend or a family member, then don't use it
The other is specifically for paying for 'item or service' - The clue's in the title!

We don't ban any method of payment, such as cheques, Western Union, bank transfer etc - Paypal offers some protection if used correctly, nothing else does.
It's up to all parties to make sure they're happy and protected in all aspects of online trading - How many of us use debit cards for online purchases even though there's far more protection when using a credit card, but the whole world is still allowed to accept online payments by debit card?

"send as gift" hasn't been an option from here for over a decade. Also can't have an unverified PayPal account.

I've done international remittance a few times (which are just stupidly annoyingly ridiculous to do) and have to sign a whole separate document that I'm not sending the money to North Korea or Iran or that I'm not a person of public interest :D

Sold and bought heaps of things through forums like this, and never had an issue (except for Parcel Farce) but the two times I've tried to sell things on eBay, I got messed with. Their "protection" was quite a joke...

This is a big debate on many forums, R/C or other things. I used to say Paypal as gift or you can add 3% to the total price if paying for goods, your choice. I'm on a r/c boating forum that the swap shop rules are no gift payments and I understand. So now on any forum I list something I just set my selling price to account for the 3% hit I take from Paypal, and don't even mention the gift option anymore.

That sounds fair.

I would much prefer cash in hand but in the real world that is just not possible most of the time.

I hate paypal having money on hold.

it is nit that me as a seller will scam people, vut ebay and paypal  ******* cover the buyer more then seller.

For example, I sold my wife Monclear jacker for 500€ on ebay. So that some korean girl would bust my nuts for 50$ as the jacket has not been dry cleaned.

Also I have read about some ebay review that the buyer said the item was not as listed, but it was, and the buyer sended back a brick to the seller and paypal refunded.

do you think what I do?

tamiyaclub seems to be a honest community, and I dont see a problem asking for gift payments. As you could always blacklist the scam member on here.

If a TC forum long time member or heavy user they will value their rep and personally I feel we are a family/friends circle. As such for the smaller items we all send each other I have no issue with it.

I have bought 4 cars all using F & F Paypal with Forum members. MOST I approached for the sale rather than the other way round. I have been scammed on Gumtree and now that I understand how Goods & Services works on PayPal use it on all transactions with "strangers". I have also sold the same way. I Always give option to add the fee if the buyer wants the protection, only one has to date.

This forum is not really strangers anymore unless your a newbe, then I would treat more cautiously.
