Looks rubbish though.

To each their own, I suppose. B)

I've always admired asymmetrical designs, particularly when they put function over form  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Exactly why i like the nissan cube ;)

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasnt right up against the body on the right hand side.

I'd argue that the Cube is form-over-function

The TA02 FRP chassis is now a 25 year old design, and what was considered "cutting edge" for Tamiya in 1994... So yeah, it's a bit quirky to say the least, but I find it an endearing example of Tamiya's early attempts at race-inspired designs.

Now their built im tempted to take them apart, paint behind the gold centers black and black out the filled i  gold sections.

What did you decide to do for the wheels?

Painting them is rather tedious, but the results can be stunning if done carefully:

This is just some matte black and chrome silver that was applied with a line brush. I think the gold plastic appears better when framed with contrasting colors.

I painted the blocked spokes and behind the centers. They look ok, might paint them better later on. I have some fuchs coming for it too.

Currently trying to decide whether to use the window rubber decals or paint them all flat black. Not sure how tamiya acrylic would hold up on the lexa  though. The decals are too glossy and will disappear visually. Would be nice to build it as intended though, could always change them later.

Ive got a cockpit set coming too.

They do look loads better with the silver separating the centers from the outer lips! If i paint the centers a nicer gold ill detail them better. The last few pics show what ive already done to the wheels.

Looks great though! Have you shortened the wheelbase on that?

Thanks! No, it's the 49400 30th Anniversary TA-05 chassis which has the correct 230mm wheelbase (shown here with the wheels for my Vaillant body):

This is where I paused on my build. I was looking at the bumper rubber and thought this should get painted Matt black instead of using the decals

I'm of @Shodog's opinion here. With all the effort and time it takes to cut the window rubber/bumper decals, I couldn't help thinking the would have been better painted in after I'd finished.

Before i take it apart and move it, is ther any reason tamiya pit the battery holder over to one side? Looks like its possible to fit it centrally, looks odd looking at the car from the right hand side.

I had to move the battery holder out to its furthest point as I only have full length batteries. As @OCD says its for balance. There is an RCtech comprehensive article on the 40th Anniversary Jagermeister build, as good as the same kit, (plus a YouTube of it running). In it he shows just how moving a shorty Lipo over to one side equalises the turning circle, instead of having a slightly tighter circle one way to the other.

I scanned the sticker sheet and re-made all the window rubbers, the trim on the top of the front bumper and the side trims with matt black vinyl. This looks more realistic than the shiny black and as they are cut with a machine, they are perfect with no clear surrounds or risk of cutting into the black by mistake. A lot quicker than masking and painting too. If anyone wants one I can do a sheet of these for £10 plus postage:

These sheets are for a Peugeot 306, but you can see how they look. Just peel off and stick on, no cutting required. The 306 has a mixture of gloss and matt window trims so there's sheets for both shown here, and they are one piece not in sections like the 934, as the original 306 has tinted windows on the sticker sheet.

I fitted the window decals last night. They look neat, just too shiny. Doing a couple of paint tests to see if i want to paint them or not, if it doesnt go well your sheet will be a great option. Thanks for making them available!

Not great photos, but window decal side

And masked and sprayed side

I prefer the painted side. I think ill spray all the black rubber parts. I know i can add a slight sheen to this paint if i want by lightly oiling it once dry but ill probably leave it flat.

I guess thats the motor choice sorted. Seems it was recomended hopup for ta02?

Any thoughts on pinion size.

Edit...

Just took this motor apart and its in great condition. Com is a bit discoloured bit not scored or worn, its clean inside, bearings feel good and the brushes have hardly and wear except from acquiring the shape of the com.

Just that little ding in the end bells metal plate to tap back.

The Dyna tech at 22k rpm is like a regular old Carrera while A dyna run motor with 26.5k rpm is Turbo Carrera speed

The Dyna tech motor came out in ‘88 which is pretty olD whereas The Dyna run came out in ‘96 which goes better with this ‘95-‘96 chassis.

After a short lunchbox interlude i got back to this. The rubber sections were painted. Had a little bleed but it looks ok. Probably wouldnt look too hot if it wasnt black. I got the decals on apart from the gold ones.

I also have these, undecided if i will repaint the silver or just detail them as is.

iN29QIG.jpg

And ive trimmed the cockpit tray, just need some satin black.

rcq5wVW.jpg

Still got the lights to sort but i want to get the cockpit in first so i can fix the box to the underneath.

I managed to ruin the wing though. Was looking great, masked it to spray the flat black and the tape glue mixed with the weird solvent in my choice of flat black marked the gloss lacquer. I stripped it with brake fluid but its not painting nicely any more, i think the brake fluid has got into the plastic.

Oh well, ive ordered another. It comes with the light buckets though and im pretty sure if i cut the indicators off the headlights will fit the 911 rsr i bought to rob the wheels from.

If i can get the electrics in tomorrow i can test the chassis as i have access to a huge painted floor industrial unit at the moment thats completely empty 😀

Great looking Porsche, hope you get the rear wing sorted as that will be the icing on the cake and good luck for the run on the painted floor, sounds perfect!

Who did you order the wheels from, most places seem to be out of stock of the centres.

Also, is that factory wheelbase or did you end up altering it?

I could only find them in germany, i ordered the porsche from germany so could have got them at the same time but didnt think. I didnt want to pay shipping just for wheels so i odered the whole 911 rsr kit for the wheels.

Its stock wheelbase at the moment but might still tweek it, ill see how i get on when its set up.

I work at a vinyl shop and this will be my preferred method for window trim on my kits. Just a much cleaner look and tons of options.
