Caught a vid on YT of some guys building a rig specifically to do burnouts and looked like a ton of fun!! It had line lock and put out a decent smoke show.

What Tamiya chassis would be best suited for this? better yet they should release one!

Thinking about this seriously for a moment - I think what you'd need is a 4wd chassis running in RWD configuration with a 3rd servo that somehow prevents the front diff from turning, by locking out the gearbox somehow.

I'm assuming there'd be no need to have it drive nicely or handle properly.  Provided it can do basic things like drive around and do burnouts.

The interesting thing about using a brake on the front gearbox (rather than trying to implement a brake on the wheels themselves) is the diff will allow the vehicle to rotate on its front wheels, so you could do donuts as well as burnouts.

Another option is a brake foot or feet that pops out the bottom of the chassis at the front to dig into the ground and stop it moving.  Probably easier to fabricate than a gearbox lockout but wouldn't look so good (IMO).

It's food for thought since I'm working on a drag racing truck similar in construction to the Bandag Bullet, and I'd like to be able to do burnouts and donuts, but the 1:14 big rigs don't have driven front axles so I can't have a front brake.  I had considered a little jockey wheel popping down in front of the rear wheels to lift them just enough to brake traction.

Of course what you really want for a proper burnout is heaps of smoke, but I'm not sure there are any smoke generators on the market that make that much smoke...

If its a proper burnout the smoke needs to come from the tyres ;)

I was going to say that this would be impossible until I watch the vids linked above...  Looks like enough brushless power and sticky tyres will smoke nicely :D

Short version, 4wd touring car, 1/8 brushless

The front diff has a servo actuated brake disk.

God that guy is 100mph exhausting to watch, a real live wire but he is very into the hobby and very likeable... great workshop he has and the paint can racks are to die for ;) I'm off to find his burnout video now

I think you would want almost no grip on the rear tyres at all - there is so little weight in an rc car compared to the torque of an electric motor that with the front wheels locked it would still drive it about (just with locked up front wheels snow ploughing everywhere)

Kev Talbot owns a ebay RC store and makes over 1 mil a year doing it, hence why his shop and stash is so killer. He does love the hobby and has a lot of great info, even did a build of the RE-RE Manta Ray. He's super amped up but i guess i would be too if i got to play with RC's all day...lol

It feels forced sometimes like it's just to get more views. Typical clickbait style youtube videos. A lot of the bashing/trashing videos degenerate into childish destruction, it gets old after you've seen 5-10 of them. I highly doubt he makes 1 mil a year. If his store is the one I think it is (has he stopped selling, I couldn't find a link?), then he only has 1500 odd feedbacks in the past year. If we assume that only 1 in 10 people leave feedback (conservative) that's 15000 transactions to make 1 mil in profit or 66 profit for each transaction. Most items sold aren't even that much, never mind actual profit.

edit: in his video "A Day in the life an ebay Seller" you actually see his computer showing he has sold maybe 20-30 items in a day and he 'picks the bits he's sold and lines them up on his table' and it's mostly small stuff like servos and replacement parts. That is in the ballpark of my above estimate and certainly not turning 2700+ pounds or dollars or whatever profit a day. His profit figure is probably BS fabricated to try and sell his business course.

Mr Talbot is an interesting character. He feels very genuine and passionate even if his content is a bit cynical and clickbait-ey.

I don't give a toss about the eBay course, YouTube course or the simple breaking of toys so I don't bother watching those and I've got good at skipping past them. His builds and modifications are his most enjoyable content by far though.

He's built some decent R/Cs out of Lego type kits and the vids although a bit over the top are still edited fairly well and keeps you interested.
