When i was stripping my XR311 down yeserday, i opened the gearbox and all of this rubbish was inside its like big sand lumps[|)]It looks like its been there for a long time,has anyone else had this problem?I was quite shocked with this!

I will get a pic up later today,so then you can all see.

Maybe this is usual?[?]

EDIT:I got a pic now,heres after a small clean,it had even more junk in than this!

That lookes real strange. Is sure seems sealed enough when looking at a XR311 gearbox. As DJTheo says, it must be some old grease, maybee of some sort not suitable for r/c in the first place.

I had the same when stripping down my scorchers gearbox,. the old grease had gone all hard + crumbly in places ,. had to scrape it all out the gears teeth with a little screwdriver,. took ages![xx(]

yup guys,its really strange becuase tehre are only 2 tiny holes at the bottem of the gea5rbox,it probably is old grease?

jonny bravo:- did you scratch the aluminium underneath when you scraped it of?If not what size screwdriver did you use? [:)]

Once the XR311 gearbox is assembled, there is no way dirt can get in, except for the two holes in the bottom. There should be two small plugs covering these holes (they sometime fall out). Once you've cleaned it, block-off these holes and it should get nice and clean.
