Hi,

I did a hopped up Hol bug a few years back, it run stick packs (had no holes in the sides though) and had a technigold fitted, full ball bearings, crp rear axles and modded front suspension and front bumper.

If i remember right a ball diff was available at one time but was quiet rare and i must say i've never seen one in the flesh yet. There was several ideas on adapting dampers to the rear suspension (some members did it i think) but in my opinion looked out of place.

In my opinion just fitting bearings and slappin in a 540 motor is enough because if you go to mad it's just so un-drivable trust me.

One of my favourite vintage tamiyas is also the Holiday Buggy. I ran a hopped up one at Kidderminster on Sunday. It's completely original but is fitted with 540 motor, full bearings, esc and 2000 cells running longways down the centre of the chassis. I have to turn the torque and the top speed down on the esc because as Sonic says its completely undriveable...but fun.

On my runner Sand Rover I have a hop up TMS rear bumper, a Twinset lexan front bumper and a 540 mount apart from that it is stock.

I have one more TMS rear bumper should anyone want one, available at reasonable cost or trade.

Also available way back when were aluminum wheels. Not sure if they were from CRP or RCH(the latter I think?) Shodog would know for sure as he has some. [8D]

if you can find parts to fit, its well worth adapting the rear to coilovers as the difference is quite amazing. they don't drive well with 540 and stock suspension, if your running on fairly flat ground set it a bit lower so the drive shafts are horizontal to lose the neg camber as this improves stability.

I am in the process of restoring a HB, which I'll play with. I am looking for a 540 motor mount. The one thing I've just complete is 'fully-ballracing' the gearbox. Yeah, I mean fully. The 'A' and 'B' gears now fit on 3mm shafts, and have 3x6mm flanged bearings inserted on each side. The rear axle and front wheels are also ballraced. I'd be interested in seeing how it goes with the 540 !!!

what size ball bearings, and how many are needed? does anybody have a picture of crp rear axles? Where can I get these parts?

As always the best place for finding the axles is epay. I have not seen any in a while, but the show up every now and then. Be prepared to pay a descent price for them, they usually don't go for pennies. I have some and will dig them for a pic, then post it here when I am done.

Hope this helps.

anyway i dont think there ever was a replacment for the front bumper but twinset's metal and lexan bumpers are very good quality

I just made an ali rollbar for Rothmans Racing Team for his Rover, once he polishes it up it will look sweet.[:D]

He also discovered that my reproduction Scorcher mirror fits perfectly

where the screw goes to mount the windshield, it looks like it was

designed to go there. Plus he is mounting a set of my functional KC's

on the front.

So I guess it shows that with some creativity one can really set their ride apart from the rest.[;)]

I am shipping the body back tomorrow so maybe he will have some photos up in a week or two.
