Must admit classic Audi quattro's do look smart👍 but I wonder when they stopped putting indicator stalks on the modern Audi's🤔  or when you buy one do the salesman tell you "you are the most Important person on the road and the outside lane is just for you so just go right up other drivers tail pipes and they will be in awe of you"😏

Not sure if you're in the States but I have come to believe all German automobiles do not come standard with turn signals, not limited to Audi's.  LOL.

Ugh. Another uninspiring slab-sided Lexan nightmare slapped onto whatever chassis was lying around. Ah well, it's also another thing I don't have to wish I could spend money on.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm actually really excited by this.  I'm not a modern Audi fan but the Quattro was and still is one of the finest of the old rally legends.  I've been meaning to build a proper rally car for ages (I've had an NIB XV-01T since they first came on the scene bought just for this purpose) but I've never found a shell I wanted to fit on it.  I bought a re-re Celica shell but never been happy with it (it's still NIP).  I'm a Japanese car fan primarily but the 90s Imprezza/Lancer rally era leaves me cold although they were undoubtedly fantastic cars (my best mate had a '93 WRX STi when I had my '90 Supra 3.0 Turbo, I have some very fond memories of those days).

Until recently there were still Quattro shells around but they were pre-painted, and I want to do my own colour scheme.

Despite putting a blocker on buying new cars, I feel two purchases coming one - one for a street-mod shelf queen / part-time drift car on the stock chassis and one for a rally-style body for my XV-01T.  Unless they release on the XV (or a new rally chassis, or a TA02) in which case I'll get that one to run and mod the XV for something else.  I might have to start selling things...

I agree. I was very much hoping for a nice crisp polystyrene body, with cockpit set and all the trimmings like the Lancia 037.

Very disappointed.

This is where I am at also. Would be nice if it came with a hardbody also like the Brat and Ferrari F1.

However, maybe this is a segway into a rally re-re era. Last year was the 037, now is the Quattro and things like the the Celica, 959 and R5 can make a comeback.

I feel like you are to the Audi Quattro what I am to the Lancia 037... Want to race? :D

I kid, because I think you know more about Audis than I do about Lancias! These pictures are building the excitement for this upcoming release. And with your knowledge and attention to detail, I look forward to seeing your Quattro build :)

If not for my extant projects, I would consider one, though even then I would only use the shell. And not necessarily for an original Audi Quattro tribute, either, since the rally-centric XV-01 really has my attention... I think I will need some lead ballast for the nose, however :P

It seems there will be plenty of demand for a body-only release. I will be keen on seeing the parts sprues in such a set, particularly what is needed to build up those triple-sets of auxiliary lights.

One thing I do appreciate about this Audi Quattro compared to the last one is the simplicity: no hood vents and bumper attachment parts to worry about here!

I await the manual...

Thanks guys!  Having owned two Audi urquattro's helps. I had a 1983 and uber rare US spec 1984 (one of 64 imported to US).

My plan is to just buy the factory TT-02 kit in whatever shape or form it arrives. Honestly, I need some replacement TT-02 front hubs to move over to my TT-02R Audi R8 I raced at the Tamiya finals last year and I'll get a whole chassis of spares. I might run a TB-03 underneath this for Tarmac duty only — low and quick.

If the Tamiya decal sticker set isn't up to my specs, I'll design a "complement" set to work with the factory one, available through MCI.  My recent Mercedes-Benz GT3 sets I designed at MCI came out nice. And of course, my 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 took best of show at the Tamiya finals — so I'll only do this Audi quattro to those specs.  Also, working on Porsche 911 GT3 rallye spec sticker sets.

Audi Fuchs rims

Looks like I'll have to dip into the 3D talents here to produce a proper Fuchs forged wheel for gravel stage setup? ( @VagabondStarJXF I'm hoping he will dive in on this, although, I still need to buy a set of rims he most graciously designed for the NSU TT).

For a tarmac stage setup, I have a set of the HPI fifteen52 turbomac wheels and have already drafted a BBS sticker to cover the disc =)

Where do you have photos of your 912 GT3 that you designed for TCS.  Would love to see them

Here is the thread on the Tamiya Finals in SoCal.

My HP 911 GT3 took best of show in the GT class, I have over 40+ hours into it.

Also designed the Deutsche E Post Brief decal sticker set for the Audi R8 LMS and Porsche 911 GT3.

Unfortunately, the Audi R8 doesn't look like the photos I shot before I sent all cars and parts to SoCal. It has earned a proper race patina now =)

The Lancia Delta Integrale is my favourite car of all time but this era Quattro comes fairly close. What a legend.

I guess it’s a shame it’s not on a more rally specific chassis but I think it looks stunning and will be hard to resist!

If wheel base is standard, this will be sharing my XV-01 with the Lancia Delta Integrale.. my XV-01 is going to see some snow tomorrow in Utah :D

So is this body the exact same one as that on the Carson release?

@Wandy - possibly the same with mild livery difference. Will have to see the final kit version. I don’t have a Carson body to compare too, only a Carisma version.

It's a completely new body. I have the Carson body, and it's far from as crisp, detailed and precise as the Tamiya body. It's one of Carson's better bodies though, but that doesn't take a lot.

As for Tamiya using Carson bodies, I don't think Tamiya will ever do that again unless Carson quality is improved way beyond what I think Carson is capable of.  Considering how bad the Vectra B body in 58209 is, Tamiya can't possibly have failed to acknowledge sourcing a Carson body as a mistake.

I admittedly have some Carson bodies for the simple reason that they made bodies of some very attractive originals which nobody else offer. Still, their Porsche 356, Opel GT and BMW E21 are so bad that I haven't bought them even though I really want bodies of these cars. Carson's Lancia Stratos is possibly their worst body, but thankfully alternatives exist.

Thankfully Tamiya has released the NSU TTS and the Audi quattro now,  totally eclipsing Carson's attempts at replicating the same cars. My Carson quattro immediately went into the "to sell"-shelf with the first information of the Tamiya quattro.  So the only ones I have left now are the MB 300SLR, Opel Speedster / Vauxhall VX220,  BMW M1, Audi E2 Pikes Peak, Audi TT and Porsche 914 (actually a 916).  Apart from the 300SLR, these are the only M-chassis- and TC-bodies from Carson that I think are half decent.

I'd like to get this audi body set and put it on the XV01 for a more rally style driving experience. I had a Resol escort cosworth on the TA02 chassis and it's been a regret to this day selling it. This Audi quattro to me is one of the most exciting releases tamiya have done recently, well the body set at least. I loved rallying in the 80's, 90's and 00's but haven't watched it much recently and this Audi looks amazing. This is one of my favourite rally cars, only second to the Lancia Delta Integrale. So excited about this.

I agree with most on the style of wheel which isn't very period correct and will fit a different style. And @studioRS I love the picture you found of it wearing the wider tarmac style rims, looks fantastic and gives it a nice stance. And those HPI fifteen52 turbomac wheels look spot on B).

While I'm happy to see this Audi legend coming soon, there are just too many things that I'd have to compromise on to buy it. Although would have been nice to see something akin to the original release, I understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea and a more realistic version might suit more people. Then we're back to lexan for the body. I would have so liked to seen a beautiful hardbody like the Lancia. But the final nail in the coffin is the run-of-the-mill TT02 chassis its slapped on. The Audi was a rally car. It deserves a chassis to match. They might as well just sold it as a body set. I'm sure it will come in a generic shoebox with a sticker slapped on it too. Can you imagine if Tamiya went through all the Group B legends, all built on capable chassis?

The most capable chassis would be the xv-01 but I dont think it would suit all of the group B cars (which i would love to see) due to the wildly different sizes and wheel bases which the current xv-01 chassis wouldnt be able to accommodate
