mtbkym01 3946 Posted February 7, 2019 When you’re on the lookout for a desired model, do you prefer to find cars that: 1) Needs lots of work? 2) Need a little tidy up? 3) A nice clean “not much to do” example? I’m currently working on an old big bear, and have a lot of used parts, which would almost complete another 2 cars. I’m wondering how far I should go on “what’s left” before I pop them up for sale. look forward to opinions cheers
evssv69 378 Posted February 7, 2019 I'm either 2 or 3....but i guess alot depends on the asking price
Baddon 860 Posted February 7, 2019 Depends what it is and on parts availibility. I have a lot of 1 (has to be a bad price), some 2's and 3's.
graemevw 821 Posted February 7, 2019 I like them to need lots of work, as long as the price reflects that. Ends up costing more in the end quite often, but if im not getting the enjoyment of a new build then a full strip, clean, rebuild and a bit of a parts hunt is just as good.

I love to take a basket case and bring her back to like-new condition. It's very satisfying
yogi-bear 2299 Posted February 7, 2019 basket cases mainly for me. I also like getting junk lots that are a mashup and then going through to see what hidden treasures (or not!) are in there.
Snappy1 964 Posted February 7, 2019 For me it depends on the price of unit to parts availability ratio lol
mongoose1983 3335 Posted February 8, 2019 I go for option #1, but it's got to be cheap.
markbt73 5290 Posted February 8, 2019 Basket case, for sure. I don't care about originality, so I'll fix it up as I see fit, and not feel guilty about "ruining" a collector's item, because it's already ruined...
mtbkym01 3946 Posted February 8, 2019 This is very interesting, and some great responses. I’m probably in the #2 camp myself, I like a fairly complete model that may look quite dirty and rough, but with a bit of elbow grease and systematic work, quite a good looking model come out the other end. Keep the responses coming guys
RCvet 63 Posted February 8, 2019 How about 2.5. I used to do the beater resotrations and end up with way more in them than if I just bought a clean one to begin with. Whether it a runner or not just seems the case for me. Or maybe I am just getting lazy in my old age, yeah that's it.
