Lancer DF-01 build

Recommended Posts

Just spent the weekend building this kit acquired a while ago. Stickers took a lot of time. Wheels / tires are Tamiya 2.2" and Pro-Line Dirt Hawgs.

I had this model a few years back. Brilliant fun on all surfaces.

What is the wheelbase set at for this body?

Pretty sure they are 267mm like the Manta Ray et al. Should have been called the TA01L to avoid confusion with the proper buggy in my opinion. It's a TA01 with the rear arms flipped backwards instead of swept forwards.

That one does look great. Especially with the buggy wheels.

Still working on the light bucket / mirror etc. Hopefully, painting can be completed tomorrow. Then I can get started on fixing up the LED lightings.

These are built the same as the 58154 M0125 Hummer. They have a 280mm wheelbase and use 2-piece lower arms that are specific to this chassis. The rear end employs a "wide" version of TA02 rear arms, which requires the longer 42mm driveshafts. The front arms are the exact same dimensions as the TA02, but use TA01/DF01 knuckles to match the wider track of the rear, and also uses 42mm shafts. This is all tied together with the longer DF01/TA01 chassis tub, which is why you end up with a wheelbase that is longer than that of the Manta Ray and Top Force buggies.

It's also why you can fit taller/wider tires on these models. I'd say it looks like fun 😎

Maybe it should be called the TA01T?

Do u think these MST crawler tires with original 1.9" wheels look better or the buggy wheel / tire combo ?

As much as I like the usefulness of having bigger tires/wheels on this chassis, those MST tires look great with those wheels B)

The higher sidewall looks far more realistic.

i wish there was 1.55 wheels and rally tires to suit.

Strange proportions, that body. Been looking at this kit for a while, but could never decide wether I like it or not.
