The Cool Wheels Thread

Recommended Posts

Great thread. Cool wheels can either make or break the look of the vehicle. It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Tecnacraft wheels. They were produced in a machine shop about 60 miles from me. I’ve collected sets from the Philippines to  Europe

They've been around for a while but those shiny SRB rims seem pretty timeless...

And BBS style rims can change a look...

I know these are only stock Clod/Bullhead wheels... but the tyres make them look even better

Always loved the three-piece Kyosho split rims for being so absurdly over engineered.

I really liked the look of the Kyosho 'Peugeot' rims, too, but they never came in a narrow front version.

For Touring cars I really like these HPI wheels:

These are based on real 1:1 scale wheels called American Racing Torque Thrusts. They are a very popular after-market choice, especially for '60s and '70s muscle cars.

Back in the day (many decades ago) a guy that was it our local rc club bought the Optima mid with the Peugeot rims and on the strength of that actually bought the Peugeot 205 GTI in black! it was only the 1.9 GTI that came with those rims!.......mad more money than sence🤔 still to this day I always wondered how he afforded it because from what I seen and heard he only knitted jumpers for cricket team's but he always had the new top end gear?

Blackmail, I reckon. Did a measurement for a jumper, saw something he shouldn't have seen...

and my Lowride Pumpkin wheels

Also love these M-Chassis wheels, the old school Beetle style. Used them on my Sand Rover, customized for the use with Buggy Champ tyres.

For a period of time I was in love with HPI's Work XSA replicas in various offsets...  Several of my cars have these in different colors and offsets.  You can find nameless clones of these for cheap.

The kit stock R91CP wheels come out well after painting the lips and fasteners, and adding the SSR decals...  I like those little details.

I'm pretty impressed with Tamiya's Racing Truck wheels as well.  Paint the inner hub and change the wheel nut to match, and I think they're pretty convincing.  By the way, these taller tires and wheels (or a number of different M-chassis wheels) look great under a Clod Buster shell; they fill the wheel arches appropriately.  I was ready to slap these wheels on my FGX EVO 2018 F1 chassis and drop the Clod Buster shell on top, but the wheelbase is off by 5 mm.

Great thread @ThunderDragonCy

Depends on whether you go factory or aftermarket for me.

Also whether you try to compare early vs mid vs new kits ...

If I stick to my era, it would be the factory Mk1 Hotshot rims or after market ‘Fuchs’ Porsche alloys that @Shodog found.

Both stunning - and rare !

It might due to my love for Saab but 3 spokes look sweet IMO & as far as standard Tamiya kit goes these are my kind of wheels
