Busdriver 6209 Posted April 10, 2019 I recently acquired a beetle Blitzer from @Hobgoblin and thought I'd do something different. I have always modelled in real plastic rather than lexan so this was an opportunity to let my imagination run wild. For the time being the chassis is in bits and will just be rebuilt with new bearings and maybe a slightly quicker motor, other wise it will be stock. Tho body on the other hand will be quite different. I wondered what would happen if Arnie got hold of Herbie and turned him into an FAV. A six barrel mini gun for a start. I am trying to buy very little to complete this so you will see odd bits of spares appearing in some unusual places. So this is what I started with Its originally a white shell so assuming its a Schorcher circa 2010.It has been painted in a strange black paint that is quite textured. Not going to strip it but try and build in roughness. I wanted a slightly differet look for the front so out came the P38 isopon. IMHO the best modelling filler for hard stuff. (health warning: don't sand in enclosed spaces especially with mechanical sanders) Looks pretty rough to start with but a little elbow grease works wonders. Having seen a lot of @JennyMo work I wanted to include a roll cage like her current build but with a twist No roof. Jennymo has given me the details of the cage she used and this will be one of the only major bits I intend to buy. Ebay night is Sunday night!!!! These are only rough cuts the final shape will be better. So now i need to think about armament. The FAV has a piddling .50cal machine gun. Arnie would not be happy with that. He needs at lease 6 barrels firing depleted uranium Armour piercing shells??? Something like this Thats about it for now, body has had a bit of a rub down and some filler primer which has reacted with whatever paint was there. Quite a nice effect, will have o think about that. OOps not sure how to correct this? More soon This is a mock up of the gun.All made from spare parts. Will be fitted to roll cage when I get it. Plenty of room inside. I intend to build a rear deck and a two seat cabin. The blitzer chassis is very flat infront of the battery so should be able to use full figures. Have two willy's but want to use different heads but cant find what I want. Ideally I'd like a terminator head and a girl head but want ture scale not cartoon?? Body mounted on refurbished chassis. All bearings done. Currently fitted with silvercan but may uprate to torque tuned or sport tuned motor. Not sure about paint schemes yet fancy shabby but not sure if my painting skills are up to it. May change mind completely and drop it into the weeds give it a shiny paint job like a cruiser.Only time will tell.
JennyMo 3526 Posted April 10, 2019 Ha - great project - glad I was able to help a bit! As for the driver, it's a shame but I've already sold my Terminator Willy - he would have been perfect! https://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=121923&id=25648 Still, it looks like you are a dab-hand with the filler and scalpel already, so why not have a go at carving one yourself?! Looking forward to seeing this one come to life! Jenny x

Busdriver 6209 Posted April 14, 2019 Im at that difficult place in all builds and that is waiting for parts!!!! I have ordered a Terminator, Roll cage and other sundry bits and bobs and cant do much to the cockpit until they all arrive. Have done a bit more on the body. Ive scribed in the bonnet line across the front and cut out some openings for lights in the wings. I have to say it is looking a little more California cool than FAV at the moment, but then Arnie became Gov of California so!!!!! Will need to make up some boxes to go behind the light openings. They may be functional as I have a set of lights from my Defender that I didnt use. I also have 4 big spots to run across the front but they need altering as they look all wrong. Too much chrome. Next will be some metalwork to create front and rear protection. Also want to fit some side rails, may even cut running boards off and have some stock car style bars? Probably all change by the time I post again!!!!!
Busdriver 6209 Posted April 17, 2019 Thought Arnie would have more of a rat rod look.. Would love to find a 1/10th scale angle grinder so it looks like he just hacked the roof off All of the paint apart from a bit of grey primer was on the body when I got it. Wheels will be Blitzers but not white and clean. I've painted up an old set in aluminium but the need a bit of aggro to make them look old. Intend to add a bit of dirt coloured glaze oo ver the body as well. Impatiently waiting for my roll cage!!!
max69vk 708 Posted April 18, 2019 This looks like lot of fun! I’m liking the bonnet mounted gun, I just cheated and nicked one of an FAV! https://flic.kr/p/ZXUaW5
Busdriver 6209 Posted April 18, 2019 I felt the fav gun was a bit too tinny for Arnie. Having said that looking at some scale pictures it would seem my multi barrel is more suited to an A10 Warthog rather than a car. Hey ho!!! Still not sure about body style and colour. There are some paint techniques I'd like to try, some salt and pva glue, might play around until I get the roll cage. Can't really mock anything up until it arrives. Come on Modelsports????. Have ordered a 7inch Terminator 2 with a multi barrel gun. Looks tiny. Again when it arrives well see.
Busdriver 6209 Posted April 18, 2019 Meant to say I love the colour. Seems like a Matt VW orange?
Busdriver 6209 Posted April 20, 2019 Finally I think Ive got the look I was after. Spent a happy hour or so in the glorious sunshine with some old brown/red paints and some old rattle cans and SAXA salt. My first attempt at salt chipping!! Not bad but needs a bit of pinwashing etc to soften it down a bit
Busdriver 6209 Posted April 20, 2019 definately more like it!! The roll cage and Arnie figure should pull it all together. Then I can finish the rest of the cockpit 3
Busdriver 6209 Posted April 27, 2019 Armies arrived.even his Gattling gun is a little small!!!! Not that I'm brave enough to tell him. I think he may a fraction under scale but since when did Tamiya worry about that. Once I get the roll cage, that I've been promised should be by the end of next week I ca get building the rest of the cab. Going to try and construct an ejector seat for him to sit in. Seeing as the gun seems to have come from an A10 I'm sure he'd have used other bits as well.
Busdriver 6209 Posted May 4, 2019 Finally the roll cage arrived. It's funny how plans can change. After a bit of cutting I ended up with this: then as I was playing around with whether the cage should be fitted to the body or the chassis this happened the front section is I think the bottom section of the cage. So it now looks more FAV and less Bug???? Arnie is confused. Well I'm off on holiday for a week so it's going to sit on the bench until I get back then I can make a decision.
Busdriver 6209 Posted May 4, 2019 Subliminal thinking!!!!!! Just realised this is @JennyMo SRB cage racer or at least similar. As they say imitation is the best form of flattery

As they say imitation is the best form of flattery Hee hee - yes, I actually got the idea to put this particular cage inside a Beetle body after sitting the Fro-Sco next the the SRB Cage Racer and thought, you know that would probably work too! - hence the Mega-bug pile of parts I have currently... Busdriver 6209 Posted May 18, 2019 Had a little break trolling (no pun intended) up the Norwegian coast on a cruise ship but now back to the grind stone. Started with standing Arnie now I have sitting one. Ha his skeleton wasn't that tough, did it with a scalpel. then had to build his seat. Took the idea from a jet ejector seat Have mocked up a rear deck and got most of the cage sorted now ive got to get him to fit. Had to take the mounting plate so his seat sits almost on the floor. Will have to use a different way of securing the battery but shouldn't be a problem. finally a trial fit with the body. Not going to use beetle Side mounts but rather use stadium mounts through the rear deck. Just waiting for supplies of plasticard to arrive so I can sort the deck stilll a way to go but getting there!!
Busdriver 6209 Posted June 4, 2019 Hadn't done much recently due to big family issues. Almost back on even keel and had a day away from the problems, so got a bit more done. Here are some pictures which don't really need much explanation. There not final fix but getting there. Still thinking of a way of hiding motor at the back? any ideas?????
J@mes 2326 Posted June 6, 2019 Could you lower the shell to hide the motor? Or a black motor would blend in better, nice build thread!
Busdriver 6209 Posted June 6, 2019 Can't really lower shell due to the way it's fitted to the chassis using the rear deck + I like the stance. I had thought about a black motor and some black heat shrink on the cables. Was hoping to use something I'd got as at the moment the only things I have bought for this are the figure, some plasticard ( that I needed anyway) and the roll cage. I'll have to have a rummage through my various modelling boxes and see what I can come up with. Might have a go at building some kind of dummy engine
Re-Bugged 10150 Posted June 6, 2019 First thought was a 'Tombstone' rear end, a kinda bullet proof set up like on the 'Death Race' movie cars, Then there was this came up on google images with a Death Race Car search... https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1718&bih=901&ei=xsT4XJGOE5WHyAOFjY6YAQ&q=death+race+car&oq=death+race+car&gs_l=img.12..0l3j0i5i30j0i8i30l6.2282.10658..13150...0.0..0.195.2132.0j14......0....1..gws-wiz-img.....0.TKAMLDJ4LIg#imgrc=AVxUktGoFGCRBM:

You can buy V8 engine covers (typically that have fans in too) on ebay - however, it might look a bit odd at that angle (a transverse V8 would be ok, but hanging out like that it would appear the engine was about to fall out I fear!)... Another option would be to buy a 1:10 scale oil drum, and use that to create a cover? That way you could pretend it was a fuel cell and the engine was actually mid-mounted in this vehicle? Jx note. I say 'buy', because I'm currently in lazy/quick solution mode - there is nothing to stop you fabricating your own engine or oil drum out of styrene of course... Busdriver 6209 Posted June 6, 2019 some great ideas, thanks
Busdriver 6209 Posted June 7, 2019 Think I've gone about as far as I can with this for now. If i find some goodies in the future I might add them on. I decided to drop the spot lights as they just were not right, I could'nt find a nice way of hiding the wires and the lights were the wrong style. Anyway the Terminator doesn't need lights, he can see in the dark!!!!! Ideally one day I need to produce an ammo belt and magazine to feed the multi gun but not for now. I said right at the beginning I wanted to use as many bits and bobs that I already had to do this build. As it stands all I've actually bought are the Arnie figure, the roll cage and one sheet of plasticard. All the rest is from spares boxes etc. The final rear guard and front guard are the front bumper at 90degrees relocated to the rear, the motor's been painted black so you hardly see it(just got to sleeve the wires in black to hide them) and the front bars from my Defender with a grill added then attached upside down at the front. I think the whole thing works well. Its certainly been fun building, thanks to all the people who have made suggestions. I didn't listen to them all but hey ho its mine. Everything has been done so that it remains a runner. I just have to put the esc and rx back in. On to the Dynahead. I'll be back!!!!!!!!!
