Tamiyabigstuff 832 Posted May 31, 2019 Just noticed this new kit on TamiyaUSA website - wonder if this signals more 80's classics to come like the Sierra Cosworth ?

Superluminal 3750 Posted June 1, 2019 It would be fantastic but I dont think very likely? I believe the Audi is a body made from moulds they already have not new tooling. I cant recall Tamiya ever having a kit Sierra in 1/10 so it would be a whole new mould for them to have to make which they dont seem to be doing apart from for very new/current real world vehicles (ie the new supra and mustang)
Blista 1519 Posted June 1, 2019 I hope they continue with older touring car re-releases but not on the TT01 chassis. Escort Cosworth re-releases would make a lot of people happy (and I suspect a lot of vintage collectors unhappy).
qatmix 794 Posted June 1, 2019 Cosworth is unlikely to be released as the whale tail as the mould was updated to make the wrc version. Tamiya are aware that some might want it but the additional cost of changing the mould does change the potential issues with a re-release along with the sponsor stickers. Maybe if the Quattro is a roaring success, it might make it more viable.
Blista 1519 Posted June 2, 2019 I might be reading too much into it, but I wonder if the HKS Skyline and Audi A4 and Quattro rally were chosen because they have minimal variety of sponsor decals? The Skyline is all HKS and both the Audis have one or two but the major sponsor is Audi itself. If getting permission and paying for them (which is how I guess it works) is a cost then I'd assume we can only expect cars with a single major brand and one or two smaller. A lot of these cars are over a quarter of a century old now. Is there ever a point where manufacturers permission isn't needed? Anyone know of a good article about the variety of copyright and manufacturing rules for these cars? I keep seeing $20 junk with manufacturers names and emblems, and even the Tamiya static model kits of the same car as an RC version. It bothers me that I keep seeing toy Minis for sale everywhere but BMW wouldn't keep decades of fandom going with the m-chassis cars. Ok, rant over. Time to take the Bronco outside.
salvine 125 Posted June 2, 2019 Since the TA02 has been showing up in the Porsche kits it would be nice to see some TA03 love.
