Dynahead(ish)/DynaMog/Polar Bear Tour Bus

Recommended Posts

"The King is dead long live the King" Dynamog is reborn. This loops body is lovely. Even when you take a dremel to it it does not melt. If I remember my physics that makes it a thermo setting plastic of some sort?  Have gone about fixing it to the chassis in a different way. The flat bed is separate from the cab and is held on by posts at the rear and magnets near the front. Really secure. The cab has been cut away to snug fit on the chassis at the back and the original magnets in the front. In the event of a major roll it should all separate rather than disintegrate!!!! Now have to decide about front fenders. They are made of rubber so that you can cut them to fit various track widths but it means there is a fairly thin contact point for glue. Some brackets may be needed as well as for the bumber which is separate. Also will look at lower panel behind front wheels as there is a big gap where the motor is, but as its proper plastic it should be fairly easy to fabricate something. Think Ill go with original colour. Also waiting in the wings is babymog (work in progress)IMG_1424.JPG.08d8da87dbb15a554d135724c45ac67f.JPGIMG_1426.JPG.c0eeef24503657af438182de43d20e67.JPGIMG_1427.JPG.10739794d04b9e58803effc406538c08.JPGIMG_1428.JPG.e7b0df6d46264ee3ddca17b46767e3ba.JPG

Its a CC01. Normally has a defender body.  Believe it or not its not much shorter than the 6 wheel version just my photography!!!IMG_1429.JPG.a4f4e14d8f549454b9c7248728da9e97.JPG

Done a bit more this week. Extended the lower part of the rear section of the cab. Still doesnt cover the motor but I dont want to make it any deeper. I have some plastic diamond plate on order so may make some steps to cover it. Refitted the underframe to the flat bed and also worked out a way to secure the back of the cab to the chassis. Used some right angle aluminium  glued to the battery cover and drilled two holes through it and the back of the cab. Two cut off sections of body post are pushed through and fixed with body clips either side. Pretty secure. The Loops body has a separate bumper so needed a way to secure it. Cut down the original wide Dynahead bumper to act as a base ( could fit a winch to or behind this in future) then fixed a plate at 90 degrees to fix the bumper to it. Currently just held on by some double sided tape. Plastic needs trimming up but nearly there. Grill is Tamiya as its already plated. Loops one is equally good jut plain black. Had a delivery of lots of stickers to play around with. Moose offroad is my favorite. Sprayed the body. Had a few issues with the loops plastic. Its very waxy and needed a lot of scrubbing/scouring/sanding. Got there in the end. Added some detail like snorkel, door handles and mirrors( Mirrors are Tamiya as they are better). Also added some plastic sheet between the back wheels to hide the servo and wires. Needs to be trimmed and painted.

Getting near the end. My checker plate arrived and after a quick coat of Halfords Aluminium looks just like the real thing. Wired up all the electrics after shortening a few wires. The Quicrun 1080 with programme card is a doddle to set up. No more counting flashes and beeps or different colours (Im colour blind!!!!) Fitted windscreen and rear screen, side ones to go. Also fitted the Tamiya light buckets as the loops ones are black. Will have to play around a little with the lens to get them to fit properly. You will notice from the pictures that the fender flares are fitted. They are my only problem with the Loops design. They are rubber and can be cut to width to fit different track widths, which is great, but they only have the thickness of the wheel arch approx 1mm to stick to, and frankly they dont:angry: Will have to rethink. As it happens I need to shave a little off the rear of the arch as it fouls on full lock, and pulls the fender off.!! May contact the guys at Loops and see if they have any ideas. So far they have been really helpful. Will do some stickers tonight then start playing with it. My only other idea is to get a set of Shapeways exhaust stacks for either side of the cab. They are the ones Arnie had on his Unimog. The look really good and frankly better than I could make. All those holes in the sheild:(

Have to say I'm really happy with the outcome. Having started with the Dynahead with a whacky body and wheels I've ended up with a really quite capable and good looking offroad vehicle. Its not a rock crawler but it goes many places that many will not follow. Way over its scale capabilties. A few details to finish such as wipers and maybe a winch, an interior and a driver. Willy's body is great but I dont like silly heads so need to find one that fits. Typical just when I need a carboot sale they're shutting down.

Finally worked out how to fix the fenders. Built up the inside of the wheelarch with 2 layers of 1.5mm strip the coated it in P38. Then rubbed it down square and used Bostik  contact adhesive to fix them together. Seem surprisingly strong. Knowing how much it must cost to run one of these rigs in real life I thought I better get some sponsors. Even included a couple of Tamiya ones:D . Also thinking about a panel around the roll bar for racing numbers and more sponsors. Just ordered a set of number plates BD61 MOG. Leave you all to work it out:ph34r: Still waitng for a couple of bits from Loops to finish the body, Ive even given them top billing !!! Only thing to work on is a possible basic interior + Driver and some head/spot lights?  Now I can go play if I dare:unsure:

Quite a fun Journey. I finished the last few bits today. The exhaust stack, the power take off on the front bumper and willy's winch on the rear deck

IMG_1476.JPG.df0bdce11e96313cf9b304f1003469c9.JPG

Having said its done, well maybe not quite:rolleyes:. Still need to do some sort of cab interior to hide the electrics as I put them all in the front rather than under the rear deck. Would also like a driver in it. Also need some junk to put on the rear deck like jerry cans, boxes, ropes etc but that will just happen as I go along. Have to start thinking about a new project. Maybe just a body mod like a streched Willy or Wrangler to fit this chassis or a new build. Probably a Wild One.

Anybody else seen any interesting custom G6-01 shells yet? I would have thought the modders and scratch builders amongst us would have some interesting creations to show off by now, or at least some works in progress to share?

Is a project ever quite finished. Got my Willy body but it will need quite a bit of surgery for it to do what I want. In the meantime I found the driver that I needed. Needless to say it was under my nose so to speak. Its the Blitzer one. Just seems a tad bigger than all the touring car etc  1/10 scale bodies so fits better with the 1/8-1/9 scale unimog.IMG_1481.JPG.9ffef8eb1dc0805c1f767903f0b54a3e.JPGIMG_1486.JPG.0dbf5af1415e1d1f4662e462f72d79ed.JPGIMG_1487.JPG.fa06cc73e0c6548f56913a571458be88.JPGIMG_1482.JPG.2598909c8df4cc0efc0f18fa91bbe5c8.JPG

I hate this guys eyes. Tried to paint them on several occasions in the past and never got them right so making some shades!!IMG_1488.JPG.98b6db1a1ff4cc3e1e7c3431c4578799.JPG

IMG_1493.JPG.2c0d5ad0ace55eec51c152d29e6891c2.JPG

Also shortened the exhaust stack as it was too vunerable.

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes!!! I love the Unimog body on my Dynahead chassis but it’s very heavy due to the Loops cab and wooden rear deck. It topples over quite often !!! Whilst commenting on a post by @Willy iine regarding a suggestion for a vehicle to display in the middle of his ultra impressive collection of Willys ( no sniggering now) I suggested a flower power micro bus with ban the bomb stickers etc. On the same day whilst looking for something on our best friend Tony’s site I found a King Yellow body shell at a decent price. I put 2 & 2 together and got 6! Now I have to look for stickers etc and 60’s colour schemes to make the Hippy Trekker Bus. This is how far I’ve got. The front end uses the same magnetic mounts as the Dynamog but the rears are made up from spares made stiffer with long m3 bolts holding it together. It takes 2 screws to dismantle and the same two to fix the Dynamog rear posts.D780BB10-B06C-48C3-B021-1A91119F8194.jpeg.ecfb58bbf89990916dfa08e01d29bf06.jpeg

Stickers ordered so not much is going to happen until they arrived. I seem to spend my life waiting for stickers these days!!!

I mentioned stickers in the last post. They were the King Yellow ones. I basically have used any colours that I had to do this. Even though I knew I needed to mask the windows as the stickers were tinted, I even cut them all out I got carried away masking and completely forgot hence the slightly psychotropic look to all the windows. I might clean the screen and driver/passenger doors but the rest I will leave as multicoloured blinds. I have ordered about 130 various 60’s/hippie/flower power stickers ready to sticker bomb it!!! More to follow

some eagle eyed members will see the emergency doors are not cut out together rid of the yellow. The  plan is to sand them partially away  to make them look battered. All I need to do now is cure the swelling sides of the body between the rear wheels?? Also need to find some luggage/junk. Might try and make a folded up 🛖 to store on the rack.

Some of the stickers that I ordered have arrived. So started to put them on . No real plan though the panels at the rear cover up the widows as that would be the sleeping area.

Strangely enough this isn’t working for me. I think it was a mistake painting straight lines. It looks a little severe rather than serene 😌 I like the daisies but the colour panels are wrong. So may remove them and some of the paint and do a more flowing scheme with just two colours. Probably the cherry red and either the yellow or the blue.

I'm not sure that I'm sold on the paint scheme, but the bus body idea on a Dynahead crawler is absolutely cracking! I love it!

Thanks. I agree about the paint scheme. It’s currently half stripped but I ran out of stripper. Not sure what I’ll do maybe a military theme or I have a set of Mountain rescue stickers that I have not used.? Would suit many colours

Personally, it reminds me of the 'Jeepneys' in the Philippines, which makes any sort of clashing colour part of its character!

A fun project to follow, this one :)

Yes but I’m finding it hard to follow one theme. It has bits and bobs that on their own are good but don’t all quite knit together. Hey but that’s why I love evolving!!!🦖🐒🧍‍♂️

Stock Photo: Bear - Polar Thalarctus maritimus Tour bus with Polar Bear / snow / Churchill, Canada.

So whilst googling around for 6 wheeled inspiration i found this. As Ive said the Hippy bus just wasnt working so I started to strip the paint off. This did not go well so in the end I just cocentrated on the window areas. Then I masked up all the window frames, Lights and grill and painted the outside of the shell. This is what Ive got so far

May need to get a set of Konghead/Yellow wheels for the snow. Sourcing some black stick on letters and maybe a Polar Bear. Also going to do a simple blue or silver stripe to break up the white. Roof rack and snorkel to be added.

Also I really liked the Hippie Bus, the plain white is looking great, too. Maybe it's just the body that can't look wrong to me. I like the idea of an artic bus.

I did as well but I think the layers were too narrow. Would have been better just two colours. But as you say it’s a great bodyshell in that it’s wacky/goofy in some ways but also works as a real vehicle
