Just picked up these 2 off gumtree for £70

WVCJs7S.jpg

tamiya grasshopper (it’s not an original)

Reely Carbon Fighter 2 (just a rolling chassis)

plus all those wheels, plus 3 body shells

aSOk9ve.jpg

Subaru brat on average condition

Subaru Impreza in poor condition

monster beetle in..... erm......

LtcA7Ki.jpg

well I guess it’s in 1 piece :)

some more pics of the Reely

RHAbCdx.jpg
FNI4ZDg.jpg

metal chassis, 4WD, oil dampers, alu roll cage, rear drive with a little window in the top, split rear wing (maybe it’s got a DRS)

The chassis and the shell have just a carbon pattern printed

It’s a pretty nice looking car tbh

as for the beetle shell - it now has pride of place

an effigy to the Tamiya gods

Been upgrading the neo scorcher

Suspension all round

wkByb16.jpg

slightly longer (supposedly 5mm front and back) but the white ones are already upgraded dampers (the base for my neo is a TT02b MS)

decided to for the yeah racing shock mount at the same time

JY87jHQ.jpg

hxaYK7K.jpg

The main issue is that the original tie rods are plastic

they secure with the stepped screw

the tie rod fixing hole is designed for that.

however the MS uses FRP tear shock mount with smaller holes to accommodate ball fixings for the tie rods.

these are too small for the holes in the yeah racing mount

some head scratching and I came up with heat shrink (2 layers of)

thoughts?

Today while hanging on the wall the neo scorcher started getting on my nerves

kjlX7o7.jpg

when I got it a few years ago id not built many before and this was my first poly shell so just followed the instructions, painted it all blue and applied the massive white decals over the cockpit

over time and crashes it looked awful

so thought I’d stay and remove the blue paint and the decals and try and do what I should have done which was mask and paint

so I masked off the inside and started using some paint remover applied with a paint brush and left till I could see it taking effect

DMyCfkD.jpg
B5E5XPH.jpg

was starting to peel nicely

ZQtBdfO.jpg

as you can see I left the white decals on just in case the shell started to have issues

Once it was clear the shell would be ok I cut around the decals I wanted to remain and then started to peel the large white sections off to reveal the clear shell again

WNTukhW.jpg

Fully stripped of paint and white decals

nRilSH5.jpg

Few coats of PS-1 white

Et voila

TERfhKU.jpg

soooooo much better And back where it belongs

along side it’s older brother

What paint stripper did you use? Looks to have been very effective. I’m imagining it’s the graffiti remover that we can’t get here in Australia?
