i just ordered a king hauler kit but was wondering f anyone knew the number of turns on the stock motor snce i want to get a holmes hobbies motor to install. i was thinking a 35 to 45 turn motor

Stock motors are 27 turn (14,500rpm) yes.

The tractor will do approx 20kph in top gear with the standard motor.

A 55 turn (7,000rpm) cuts that in half at 10kph.

A 80 turn (3,500rpm) cuts that in half again.

55 turns are good for driving outside, 80 turns (sometimes with a gear reduction and/or smaller pinion) are preferred for layouts.

I run only indoors, I use Carson Poison motors which I think are 80 turns, and I very rarely get out of 1st gear.  I'll be eliminating the gearbox entirely in my future builds.  Walking pace is plenty on an indoor layout.

The bonus is they have enough torque to uproot a tree and they run all day on a NiMH battery :D
